James didn’t become a surveyor himself, Multi-sensor reality capture: Real-world cases as- however, until he obtained a degree from the University constructed of Queensland in Information Technology in 1994. James Clients are increasingly requiring more detail to inform joined his father at Bennett and Francis in 1995, initially their designs. To respond to this increase in level of focusing on application development and computer detail, in a cost-effective manner, Bennett and Francis is systems management. For the past five plus years, deploying a wide array of sensors to control and efferently James’ lead role and focus has been on scaling laser acquire survey data that is fit for purpose and plays to the scanning capabilities for Bennett and Francis, which has individual strengths of the respective sensor platforms. more recently been expanded to include UAV (chief pilot) and photogrammetry/reality capture. Bennett and Francis is regularly affecting “campus- scale” captures - involving hundreds of scans and many thousands of photos - and making them come together to create survey-grade reality meshes and point clouds. Sensors are terrestrial and UAV-mounted, static and mobile. Data collected is extensive, typically 10+ gigabytes of raw data per day. Typical projects involve a few days of field work for between two and four field operators. This presentation explores the workflows and various real-world samples of this type of acquisition.
