September 2021 RIGHT TO RIDE Promoting Safety! To Those that Concede, Safeguarding Rights! No Injustice is done. . . PO Box 22764 Lincoln, NE 68542 Rambling’s from the Road … UPCOMING EVENTS Wow! Where has the time gone … Here we are staring down the end of riding season already! … Well it is Nebraska, it may be 90 in January so … maybe not. This has been an interesting year with Covid and so PLEASE CHECK WITH THE DISTRICT REP TO MAKE SURE many issues across the state it seems we have been so disconnected THE FUNCTION HAS NOT BEEN POSTPONED and yet I see so many districts getting out there and working to have events in their communities. I applaud everyone that has had an event I personally know how hard it is to get anything done with Department of health mandates and every changing rules. Well Done everyone! I also wanted to point out the extreme amount of giving that has come this year, even with Covid we as a corporation managed to give back to October our communities in abundance, again I applaud all those that made this 3 D6 Meeting Grant Street Bar 1pm happen, we surpassed many years and came equal to some of the highest. D12 Meeting Just one more bar Hayes cntr. 12:30 lunch meeting 2pm Legislatively we have a mess, We have senators fighting over the new redistricting and from what I see there is no compromise in store. I see 9 STEAM nebraska Kearney Ramada one plan that looks relatively correct with maybe a few modifications 10 BOD Meeting Ramada Kearney 9 am but nobody seems willing to negotiate. How this will affect the makeup in the next few years is uncertain. I do know it may shake up even the 23 D7 Toy Run / Chili Feed status of the committee’s … see there is a method to the madness and 31 D4 John n Julia's halloween party 6pm even redistricting can change the current committee status .. Ie we may have new folks in transportation next year … we will be keeping a close November eye on things but for now best we can do is make friends with your 6 D12 Meeting Mr.C's Wauneta senator! This is the best advise always! Whether they are with us or against us having a friend on the floor that can reason with you on the 12:30 lunch meeting 2pm gun raffle drawing issue is still a better plan than a staunch enemy. D15 Meeting tri county bar, Emerson Enjoy the last days of summer and keep the bike warm … as I said it is 7 D6 Meeting Grant Street Bar 1pm Nebraska … I’m sure more warm days will appear. 28 D4 Meeting Mugs n Jugs, Humphrey 2pm December Keep the shiny side up! RIGHT TO RIDE For the last 2 years, Dis- trict 15 has been supplying flags to our supporting businesses. Today's (9/11)has a special meaning. Never forget!! ABATE spotlight 6
RIGHT TO RIDE What a summer it has been! It is eye opening when you sit back and realize how busy our daily lives are. I do a lot of it to myself because when I am passionate about something, I tend to get so involved and “run my mouth” that I end up on the board. Passion is the reason I am writing this article. I have many passions and one of them is riding my motorcycle. But what I am even more passionate about is ABATE of Nebraska. See, I feel spoiled almost with my ABATE story. I walked in to my 1st ABATE meeting because my friends had been going to them and seemed to be having fun. What I didn’t realize that day is what was about to happen, what was about to become a life changing moment. I thought I was just meeting people and enjoying the conversations. I came back the next meeting, still enjoyed myself and met more people but something changed at that 2nd meeting. I spoke up, I let the room know what my thoughts were. That is the day that our District Rep no- ticed me. Rick Backer was one of a kind and he controlled the room at meetings. It was mesmerizing to me. I have a voice and at times, a VERY BIG ONE! But Rick was different, he could control a room and steer things in the right direction and it just seemed easy for him. Our members listened to his words and Rick listened to theirs. That simple reason is why I decided to get more involved with ABATE. I knew I had a leader that I could talk to and he would listen to my thoughts. I knew that we had an officer team that was dedicated and passionate and that was something that I could get involved with. A room full of people who were and still are as passionate as I am. I said I felt spoiled with my ABATE story and Rick was a big part of why I said that. But for me, ABATE has always been more than once a month meetings where people get together. It has become a huge part of my life. It had to as far as I was concerned. I was looking at members like Rick and Sandy, Gary and Cara, Diane and Gerard, Caleb, Larry, Damon, Gump and so many more that had a true passion for what they were doing. I knew if I was to become an active member, my level had to match theirs and its been an amazing few years so far. That’s what started this journey for me. I started attending State functions and meeting people from across the state. I look forward to meeting so many more of you. I absolutely love Lobby Day, I love being in the Capitol. I get an absolute thrill out of pulling Senators off of the floor to have a conversation. What makes that even more fun is the fact that I know quite a few of them. Todd, Gary and Randy do such a good job on that floor. You can see the respect from the Senators when they come to the lobby and have conversations. Caleb and I joke that Kearney is becoming our 2nd home but we always have a great time there. The times that it works that we can meet up with a bunch the night before a BOD meeting has been amazing for me. I feel that those nights have formed some very good friendships with people from across the state And Kansas!! Relationships make everything better and we have some good ones across this state and I per- sonally cant wait to make more! Just know that I love ABATE, I love our passion as a group and I look forward to meeting more of you at your events and meetings. Reach out to me and I will be happy to help do whatever I can! Nate 7

RIGHT TO RIDE District 2 Greetings all. Well summer and riding season is starting to wind down. I hope you all were able to get out on the open road and enjoy some much deserved two-wheel therapy. Nothing better for what ails you than some time behind bars ( handlebars). Granted we'll still have nice weather for awhile to get out , but the days are getting shorter and it cools off a little more when the sun sets. Not to mention our four-legged nemeses will be in the mood and running around shortly. Be careful out there. Our Polar Bear Run is fast approaching! We only have two monthly meetings left to get the details worked out. Remember, we can't accom- plish anything without volunteers. Please come to the next meeting and help us make this run as successful as it has been previously. We can't do it without your help. Our next meeting will be held Wednesday, October 13th at 7pm in the First Avenue Social Hall. Come on out and help your district succeed. Until then... Enjoy the Ride Randy Geer D2 Rep 10

We would like to thank Mary and the VFW Post 2503 for hosting us. The meet- ing was brought to order by Jim Lorence with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence for our fallen brothers and sisters and those serving in the military. The May Minutes were approved by Jon Kelly and seconded by Terry Conant. Upcoming Events: September 26th - Toy Run October 3rd – October STR Presentation; October 23rd - OAB Cajun Feed; November 7th - November Meeting; December 5th - December Meeting and Food drive (JR's Forgot Store) Our meeting this month was held at the VFW and we were able to attend the presentation of checks from the VFW to Moving Vets Forward and Guitars for Vets. It was an honor to be able to assist both of these programs. We also learned a lot about how and what these groups do to assist our local veterans. Moving Vets Forward also is asking for volunteers in the future to assist with getting supplies out to our homeless veterans for the winter. Please contact the VFW post 2503 or the group itself if you would like to assist in the upcoming months. We also discussed our upcoming Toy Run. We will be starting at Defiance Harley Davidson and receiving a police escort to Stocks and Bonds. We are also hoping to have a band or DJ, but that remains to be determined. Don't forget to bring a new unwrapped toy. Also kickstands up at 1pm, so don't be late. People are also open to meeting at Stocks and Bonds, if not able to make the ride. WE are beginning our planning for the Ride in Bike show next year. At this time it seems that the park is sold, so we may be looking into other locations for the show. We will be discussing some changes over the next few months. We will be setting up a planning committee in the fu- ture, if you are interested in helping out, please let Jim Lorence know. 11

RIGHT TO RIDE Se Thi September 17, 2021 For Immediate Release Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports Act of 2021 This week Senators Richard Burr (R-NC), Jon Tester (D-MT), Mark Kelly (D-AZ), Joni Ernst (R-IA), Thom Tillis (R-NC), and Joe Manchin (D-WV) reintroduced the Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports (RPM) Act of 2021. The bill, S. 2736, ensures that racing enthusiasts continue to have the ability to convert motor vehicles into vehicles used solely for competition. This bill also clarifies that it is legal under federal law to manufacture, sell, distribute, and install race parts that mod- ify the emissions system of a motor vehicle that is used solely for racing. The bill is in response to actions taken by the EPA in 2015. At that time, the EPA issued a proposed regulation that would prohibit the conversion of emissions-certified motor vehicles into vehicles used in motorsports com- petitions. The 2015 proposed regulation also prevented the sale or use of emissions-related race parts for those modified vehicles. An important component of S. 2736 is that it helps protect the aftermarket parts industry. A robust and thriving aftermarket parts industry is vital to the motorcyclist community. The Motorcycle Riders Foundation is part of a broad collaboration of groups working together in D.C. on this topic. As you may remember, earlier this year the House of Representatives introduced a similar bill, H.R. 3281, that now has 101 cosponsors. Join the MRF to get more up to date news! RIGHT TO RIDE SHARE THE ROAD is a motorcycle awareness program that promotes driver awareness and increases understanding of how motorcycles behave in traffic. ABATE of Nebraska, Inc. provides trained volunteers to present this program to the public. We believe that education and training are the best ways to prevent, and thereby reduce, motorcycle/automobile acci- dents. Research shows that three fourths of crashes involving a motorcycle also involves another motor vehicle, which is usually at fault. Considering crash statistics and the increasing number of motorcyclists, the key to a safer riding mix is learning to SHARE THE ROAD. Motorcycles are very different from automobiles - they are much smaller in size & are harder to see then automobiles. The failure of motorists to see motorcyclists in traffic is the most common cause of crashes. Car drivers who are involved in an accident with a motorcycle often do not see the mo- torcycle prior to the accident, or until it is too late to avoid having the acci- dent. The greatest risk area for a conflict between a motorcycle and a automobile is at an intersection...whether it is in the middle of an urban area, a drive- way on a residential street, or anywhere where traffic may cross your path of travel. Over one half of motorcycle/car acci- dents are caused by drivers entering a rider's right-of-way.
