SIT Graduation Ceremony Information (For Invercargill Ceremonies) Friday 13 December 2019, Civic Theatre Faculty of Trades and Technology Ceremony 1 Faculty of New Media, Arts and Business 11.00am Graduands and diplomates assemble, ready to process into the theatre: ÌÌ New Media, Arts and Business - backstage Civic Theatre ÌÌ Trades and Technology - Scottish Hall, Esk Street 11.15am Doors to Civic Theatre open for guests. Seats are on a first-come, first- served basis 11.45am Guests seated 12.15pm Graduation Ceremony 1 commences Please remain in the Civic Theatre for the entire ceremony 1.45pm approx. Ceremony concludes Following the ceremony you and your guests will be advised how to exit the theatre and proceed to afternoon tea 2.15pm approx. Afternoon tea in Victoria Room, Civic Theatre 3.40pm approx. Graduation procession (see page 5) Please assemble for the procession in the carpark next to the theatre 4.15pm approx. Drinks and snacks at SIT Café, Main Campus Faculty of SIT2LRN Ceremony 2 Queenstown Campus Faculty of Health, Humanities and Computing 1.15pm Graduands and diplomates assemble in the Scottish Hall (see map on page 3), Esk Street, and process into the backstage of the Civic Theatre at the appointed time 1.50pm approx Guests enter the Civic Theatre, after Ceremony 1 guests have left the theatre. Seats are on a first-come, first-served basis 2.15pm Graduation Ceremony 2 commences Please remain in the Civic Theatre for the entire ceremony 3.30pm approx. Ceremony concludes 3.40pm approx. Applying to Graduate Online (for Invercargill ceremonies only) ÌÌ Online registration opens in March and closes on 11 October ÌÌ You will be invited by email to register online for your graduation ceremony, your regalia and your guest tickets (If you have forgotten your password, please phone SIT Helpdesk 0800 748 435 and advise it is regarding Graduation) ÌÌ You will receive email confirmation of your registration as well as details about the ceremony. You are able to make changes to your registration details on MySIT until 11 October ÌÌ If you have not registered in the required timeframe above, you will be required to pay a late registration fee of $50.00 ÌÌ No registration will be accepted after 18 October ÌÌ Your registration is subject to your successful completion of the requirements of your qualification prior to the ceremony ÌÌ Any outstanding fees or fines must be cleared two weeks prior to the date of the graduation ceremony or you will be unable to attend the ceremony Guest Tickets ÌÌ SIT allows up to 2 guest tickets per graduate. You are required to apply for these during online registration ÌÌ Guest admission is by ticket only and there is no charge. You may request up to 2 additional tickets online and if there are any tickets available after the registration close date, they will be allocated on a first-registered basis and you will be notified by email by the end of October ÌÌ Tickets can be collected with your regalia ÌÌ Guests (upon presentation of ticket) and graduates are entitled to one free drink and snacks at the SIT function after the procession. Additional drinks may be purchased Special Assistance Requirements If you or your guests have a disability requiring special seating arrangements, you must indicate this at the time that you register online, so that seats can be allocated in an appropriate area of the Theatre Wheelchair access to the Civic Theatre is via the side entrance from Tay Street 2
Regalia Collection Collection: Regalia can be collected from Hansen Hall, corner Forth and Ythan Streets (behind First Church) Scottish Hall Esk Street Deveron St Jed St Civic Theatre Tay Street Å ÅFrom Dunedin Ythan St Conon St Hansen Hall Forth Street Time: Monday 9 December 10 am-6 pm Tuesday 10 December 10 am-5 pm If you are unable to collect your regalia at the times indicated above, please arrange for a family member or friend to do so on your behalf. Queenstown Students Queenstown students will collect their regalia on arrival at the venue SIT2LRN or out-of-province Students If you are a SIT2LRN student or an out-of-province student who is not able to collect regalia at the above times, you will be able to collect and pay for your regalia at SIT Hansen Hall (see map above) between 9.00-10.45 am on graduation day. Please select this option when registering online NB: Cancellation of attendance must be advised to your Faculty Administrator at least ONE WEEK prior to graduation or you will be invoiced for regalia hire costs. Regalia Hire Payment You will be able to pay for your regalia hire either online when you register or when you collect your regalia (by cash or EFTPOS): ÌÌ $30.00 for Diplomates (students completing level 5-6 diplomas) ÌÌ $50.00 for Graduands with bachelor degrees; graduate certificates; graduate diplomas; postgraduate certificates and postgraduate diplomas, masters) ÌÌ In addition, $50.00 late registration fee if you register after 11 October Regalia return All regalia must be returned to Hansen Hall either after the ceremony or by 12 noon on the Monday following the ceremony. Late return will result in a $50 penalty. You will be required to pay replacement cost for lost or damaged regalia as follows: ÌÌ Gown $350.00/Trencher $80.00/Hood $140.00/Stole $140.00 3
How to Wear your Regalia Please see SIT website for details and diagrams on how to wear your regalia. What to Wear with your Regalia As this is a formal occasion to celebrate your achievements you are expected to dress appropriately. ÌÌ For males: dress trousers and shirts, or a formal suit ÌÌ For females: dresses, skirts or dress pants ÌÌ No jeans, sports shoes, caps, beanies, jandals, chewing gum, handbags, boots/gumboots, cellphones, cigarettes or alcohol Students not meeting an appropriate dress code will not be allowed to participate in the ceremony. Please note that graduation day involves a lot of walking, including stairs, so very high heels may not be practical. Please leave all items such as handbags and cellphones with your families/friends prior to the ceremony. Strictly NO smoking or consumption of alcohol or chewing gum while dressed in regalia. Regalia from Previous Qualifications Graduates who hold qualifications from other universities may wear the SIT Gown, SIT Trencher and SIT Hood with the Hood from their previous university provided they obtain it. Graduation Day - What to do at the Ceremony Procession into Theatre SIT staff will place you in recipient order prior to the entry procession. Please ensure that you stay in this order at all times until the ceremony concludes. Opening of the ceremony Please stand when the Official Party enters the Civic Theatre at the beginning of the ceremonies. Each ceremony will last for approximately one hour and begin with Chairperson’s introductions, followed by the National Anthem. Receiving your award on stage Diplomas ÌÌ When your qualification is called you will be asked to stand and line up in order ÌÌ When your name is called, walk up the steps and shake hands with SIT’s Chief Executive, Penny Simmonds ÌÌ A photograph is taken to capture the moment for you, so pause for a second ÌÌ The Chief Executive will give you your graduation certificate ÌÌ You then move across the stage, go down the steps and return to your seat 4
Degrees ÌÌ Do not wear your trencher until you’ve been capped ÌÌ When your qualification is called you will be asked to stand and line up in order ÌÌ When your name is called, walk up the steps holding your trencher in your left hand and shake hands with SIT Chief Executive, Penny Simmonds ÌÌ The Chief Executive will give you your graduation certificate ÌÌ You then take a couple of steps towards the Council Chairperson who will hold a trencher above your head to “cap” you. You then place your trencher on your head ÌÌ A photograph is taken to capture the moment for you, so pause for a second ÌÌ You then move across the stage, go down the steps and return to your seat Postgraduate Diplomas/Postgraduate Certificates/Graduate Diplomas/ Graduate Certificates/ Masters ÌÌ You wear your trencher throughout the ceremony ÌÌ When your qualification is called you will be asked to stand and line up in order ÌÌ When your name is called, walk up the steps and shake hands with SIT’s Chief Executive, Penny Simmonds ÌÌ The Chief Executive will give you your graduation certificate ÌÌ You then take a couple of steps and shake hands with the Council Chairperson ÌÌ A photograph is taken to capture the moment for you, so pause for a second ÌÌ You then move across the stage, go down the steps and return to your seat Afternoon Tea following Ceremony 1 Graduates and guests from Ceremony 1 will be advised how to exit the theatre and proceed to afternoon tea in the Victoria Room. City Procession Following Ceremony 2, graduates from both ceremonies will assemble outside the theatre for the procession. The procession concludes at SIT where you meet your guests for complimentary refreshments in the SIT Café and grounds. There are no road closures during the parade and you are reminded to keep left of the white line. 5
Beyond Graduation While graduation may mark the end of your study at SIT, it is not the end of your links with SIT or Southland. ÌÌ For information about SIT Alumni please visit https://www.sit.ac.nz/alumni ÌÌ For information about SIT Distance Learning please visit https://www.sit.ac.nz/campus/SIT2LRN-Distance-Learning Film Coverage of Ceremony The Ceremony will be filmed by SIT Production Unit and will be available to be viewed at the YouTube address below from the Wednesday following graduation. https://www.youtube.com/user/sitzerofees/featured Photographs at the Ceremony Crossing the stage photographs A photograph will be taken as you receive your degree or diploma by Vicki Mae Stenton Photographer. These photographs will be on display for ordering after the procession in the main SIT reception and at the studio the next morning from 9 am-12 noon at 164 Yarrow Street, Invercargill, thereafter by phone or email. The photographs will be available either as a photograph only, or framed with a special embossed SIT insignia. Sizes and prices for crossing the stage photographs: Photo only Matted/Framed (with SIT insignia) 15x10cm - 6x4” $16 $70 18x13cm – 5x7” $26 $95 20x23cm – 8x12” $50 $155 25x38cm – 10x15” $85 $195 Also available on request - A4 certificate frames with SIT insignia on - Matt (14x11”) $125 must be requested. After the ceremony - Vicki Mae Stenton, Photographer, will be available at the SIT Garden for individual, family and group photographs. Please ask about this at the sales desk at main SIT reception. There is always a queue so please be patient. 6
Personalised studio portrait sitting - For your personalized studio portrait sitting which includes your families, please phone early to book for your sitting on graduation day as there are limited spaces available. Studio prices will apply. Please double check your order before confirming. The photographer will not take any responsibility for incorrect orders. No refunds will be given. Photo only orders include standard post within NZ and will be processed within 14 working days of payment being made. The studio will be open on specific days for the pick-up option and it will be your responsibility to ensure someone is available to pick up. All framed photos must include a courier fee. (South Island $15 / North Island $25). Copyright is legally owned by Vicki Mae Stenton Photographer. The photographer asks that you respect this please. Any breach of copyright enables the copyright owner to liquidated damages of $500 and liability for Lawyer/Client costs of enforcement.
