Corporate plan Replace exiting PLM applications (MatrixOne & PDMStage) with a new corporate PLM application (Windchill) and allow future harmonized product development processes. The challenge • Maintainance of all master data • Migration of data • Cleanup of all historical data
Starting point • HYDRA - Just like the multi headed serpent, Master Data Management (Item/BOM) is a topic that covers many areas(heads) linked to the Oracle R12 system(one body) and requires constant effort on all fronts. • The MDM community is spread across regions and has been growing since its inception. The problem with this global setup is the lack of uniformity and visibility to the processes, many of which cater to a specific business. • There is a clear need to establish global guidelines and processes across Advantest. With the upcoming PLM project harmonising the data flow to a large extent, we would need to define these common guidelines that can be adopted by all. • The heterogeneous data sources across the business groups and the process / tools used to load and maintain data have further reduced the overall quality. The current architecture is not conducive to stricter controls and this hampers our efforts in this area.
Objective • The aim is to improve the definition and documentation of process flows around MDM - Item, Item Categories and BOMs. • The main objective is to define, re-establish, document and implement globally – Scope of the business processes: What are we doing and why? – End to end process flows and guidelines with clear ownership established. – Data Governance Model: Who is responsible for which process part regarding Master Data? – Administration change process: Who is authorized to request changes on existing system setup and who is responsible for the implementation? • Only with complete and consistent master data is it possible to keep business going worldwide. Otherwise, a break occurs within the value chain that causes enormous process costs to correct it.
Realization • Planning and conducting workshops with all departments across all countries that work with SCM master data or are dependent on its quality. • Illustration of all business processes around master data, so that a clear idea arises, what has to be done by whom at which point. • Review of all existing E-Business Suite settings with regard to master data, value lists for each attribute and category, reports and custom developments. • Definition of roles and responsibilities to prevent wild access to or changes to master data in the future.
Achievement – Data Governance • Data Governance as “a system of decision rights and accountabilities for information- related processes, executed according to agreed-upon models which describe who can take what actions with what information, and when, under what circumstances, using what methods.”
