It was a very quick carnival due to only students who were competing being able to attend. I suspect that the number of students competing has also been affected by COVID as I am aware many lessons were cancelled during the lockdown stage, especially the indoor pools. Congratulations to all competitors, parent helpers and staff involved for a very well run, and extremely hot, swimming carnival. I would also like to wish our Districts’ representatives all the best for the upcoming carnival where they will represent Glenhaven Public School on Thursday 3 March, 2022. COMMUNICATION The school has had some issues lately with the Departments online communication tools with many areas not working. I am aware of the countless hours that Ms Tuite has put into trying to ensure these channels work. Please understand this is not poor communication from the school but simply issues beyond our control. I would also remind our community that all communication from the school comes through our Sentral App. This needs to be checked regularly to ensure all families are up to date. If you do not have access, of have forgotten your password/access codes, please contact the school so this can be rectified and then you can receive all communication. AFTERNOON PICKUPS As our community is aware we have a staggered collection system which is working quite well in the afternoon. I would however like to again point out the following systems that need to be in place to keep our children safe and ensure a quick and smooth departure from school. Top Gate. This is ONLY for students being collected by a parents or guardian on foot. Students are not allowed to access cars from this gate. Bottom Gate near OOSH. All students who are being collected by car are to be seated in this area. Students in roughly the first 5 cars are directed to get into their cars. Once these have left parents need to move down as far as possible and then the next 5 students will be directed into their car. This area covers all the way down to the bottom past the gate. This method is effective as it allows for more cars to be in this area which in turn stops cars being in the NO STOP zone which incurs a very expensive fine. If students access cars from the top gate they cannot be watched by a staff member and it stops cars from moving down. There have recently been some near misses as cars have tried to come around a car that has stopped at the top and that car has then attempted to pull out. Students have been reinformed regarding this through their class teachers and the staff on afternoon duty.
Finally, a sincere thank you to all our famiies for their prompt notification of any positive cases of COVID and following isolation guidelines. As always, no child or staff member can attend school if they are classified as a close home contact or are displaying any flu or cold like symptoms. The beginning of our school year at GPS has seen teachers and students revisiting behaviour expectations in our school. Students have been explicitly taught what Responsibility, Respect and Personal Best looks like across all areas of the playground and classroom. Our classrooms have signs matching our playground signs, displaying what our three areas look like in clear statements. Throughout the year, we will be having a “PBL Fortnight Focus” where we will reteach expectations in certain areas where students need assistance. This focus will change every fortnight and is a direct result of our collected data regarding behaviour in the playground and in the classroom. Following these expectations will ensure that students will be responsible and respectful and will always be striving for their personal best. Many smileys have been handed out to students already for excellent behaviour and following expectations in the playground and classrooms. Our smileys are tallied every fortnight and the resulting graph displayed on the digital noticeboard outside the school office. These smiley tallies are added to our yearly House Points for the year and go towards the winning house trophy. Our fortnightly focus for the first few weeks of Term 1 is All Settings. Our Expectations Teaching Matrix for PBL is included in the newsletter for your reference. If you are able to discuss these matters as well with your children at home, this will help reinforce our school expectations. PBL TEAM
