Maths – Subtracting Fractions with
 denominators that are multiples
• Today, we are going to be subtracting fractions that are multiples
of the same number, similar to our adding fractions work.
• We are going to use Monday’s method of multiplying the top and
bottom number of one of the fractions to make sure it has the
same denominator as the other fraction in the subtraction. Then
we will simplify our answers if we need to, as a next step.
• Don’t forget – what you do to the bottom, you do to the top!
• E.g. A:
• 3/4 –1/2 = 3/4 – 2/4 = 1/4
• E.g. B:
• 1 2/3 – 5/6 = 1 4/6 – 5/6 = 5/6
• This could be expanded as:
• 1 2/3 – 5/6 = 1 4/6 – 5/6 = 10/6 – 5/6 = 5/6
Maths – Subtracting Fractions with
 denominators that are multiples
• There are three levels of challenge on the main
worksheet, getting harder from Challenge 1 to 3.
• If you are a Year 3, start with Challenge 1.
• If you are a Year 4, start with Challenge 2.
• Challenge 3 is for super confident Year 4s only!

• If you are finding this a little tricky, don’t worry – there
is another Challenge, labelled Challenge A, which is
further practise at subtracting fractions with like
denominators, so have a go at that instead!

English – Informal Letters
• Tomorrow, you are going to be writing your letter about
your holiday in the Amazon. Today, you will be looking at an
example letter, and starting to plan yours.
• Don’t worry if you haven’t gone on your holiday yet – I have
included the slides from Tuesday so you can catch up!
• Task 1:
• Please read the example letter I have written, about an
equally virtual holiday to Costa Rica.
• Task 2:
• Look at how and where I have talked about the following
things, and think about your notes and what similar things
you could mention about your holiday:
   • why I chose this destination, who I am travelling with, the scenery,
the wildlife, what I have done on certain days, the food, the
accommodation, the local people, what I am planning to do next.
English – Informal Letters
• Task 3:
• Label on my letter, or draw out a diagram on a piece of
paper to map out and label, the following key things you
must include in an informal letter:
   • Your address in the top right hand corner.
   • The date, under the address, leaving a line.
   • The salutation/greeting (Dear ……,)
   • The introduction – the first paragraph.
   • The body of the letter, in clear paragraphs.
   • The closing (All the best, Love from, See you soon, etc.)
   • The signature (Where you write your name).
• You must remember this when you write your letter.
• Remember, you will be writing in the first person. (I, my,
  we).
• The success criteria for the letter is this list.
English – Informal Letters
• Task 4:
• Make a start on planning your letter.
• You could:
   • Re-watch the holiday video from Tuesday.
   • Read through your notes to refresh your memory.
   • Decide what you are going to talk about first, in the middle,
and last – make a paragraph plan, perhaps?
   • Draft your introductory paragraph.
   • Prepare your layout – write your address and the imaginary
     date, and your salutation.
   • Start drafting the body of your letter.
   • Plan some interesting vocabulary to include.

Dear Santa,

I am writing to thank you for the lovely presents you left at my house on Christmas Eve. I
couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw them all and so beautifully wrapped. Your elves must
have been very busy this year.

I especially loved the bike and have been learning how to ride it, as I haven’t had one without
stabilisers before. The pink helmet is a perfect fit and I wear it to protect my head when I’m
on my bike in case I fall off.

My brother James loved his train set and has been playing with it everyday since you
delivered it. He loves the noises it makes and connecting all of the carriages together.

I hope you and Mrs Claus have a lovely holiday and the elves and reindeers have a well
deserved rest.

Love from,

Daisy xx

    Dear Daisy,

How are you? We are at the seaside!
It has been like a dream and very
nice weather too. What a treat! We Daisy McClean,
have had ice cream every day and
my Mum said maybe I can go on a 3 Sheaf Street,
donkey tomorrow and she will teach
me to swim, what a week it’s been!
We’ve spent lots of money as it isn’t Milton Keynes
cheap and our feet are tired but it’s
    been worth it. MK3 3ET
Lots of love and see you soon,

 Dear Children,

I hope this postcard finds you happy and
well? I am having fun in my living room, at
my dining table, planning lessons for you
all! Iggy Dog is doing a great job of both
keeping me company and driving me mad
with constant demands for food and walks! Giraffe Class Children,
Today, we went for a very muddy walk and
it was lovely as the sun almost came out! At School or Home,
Tomorrow, I’m going to record some more
chapters of the class book for you to listen
to. I’m really enjoying all the work you are Wiltshire
sending me and sharing with me in the live
lessons – thank you for working so hard MI55 Y0U

Take care, and see you soon on Teams!

 Dear Santa,

I am writing to thank you for the lovely presents you left at my house on Christmas Eve. I couldn’t
believe my eyes when I saw them all and so beautifully wrapped. Your elves must have been very
 busy this year.

I especially loved the bike and have been learning how to ride it, as I haven’t had one without
stabilisers before. The pink helmet is a perfect fit and I wear it to protect my head when I’m on my
bike in case I fall off.
