Mission: PIB, founded in early 2009, is a group for Italian professionals, entrepreneurs, artists, and researchers working in and around Boston who wish to organize, promote and participate in networking opportunities, both professional and social. Objectives: • Unite Italian professionals in/around Boston • Organize cultural events relevant to the Italian community in Boston, but open to all • Facilitate collaborations and opportunities among members, and with their local international counterparts • Promote Italian heritage in Boston • Bridge Italy with Italian professionals in Boston
Organization: Flexible, dynamic, adaptive structure. Coordinators: Giovanni Abbadessa is one of PIB’s and PIE’s founders. Serves as Coordinator of PIB’s management group, of the “Professionisti Italiani all’Estero” group, of partnership efforts, and is actively involved in event planning, logistics and website design. MD, PhD, he is Senior Medical Director at ArQule, Inc. Marcella Debidda is one of PIB’s co-founders. She coordinates internal meetings and is involved in planning, logistics, and marketing of PIB’s events. PhD, she is Program Manager in the Trial Design department at Harvard Clinical Research Institute. Elisa Dell’Oglio serves as Coordinator of PIB’s website design and maintenance, and is actively involved in event planning and logistics. MS in Biomedical Engineering, she works in neurological imaging at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Nadia Di Carlo coordinates finding sponsors and assessing services that PIB can offer them, and is involved in planning PIB’s events. MBA at MIT, she manages a real estate investment firm. Francesco Fragasso is one of PIB’s co-founders. He serves as Treasurer and helps with event planning and logistics. He is Vice President and CFO at Nuvera Fuel Cells. Salvatore Mascia is one of PIB’s co-founders; he coordinates communications with members and affiliates, and is actively involved in the strategic planning and execution of PIB events. MPharma, PhD in Chemical Engineering, he is the Strategic Project Manager at the Novartis-MIT Center for Continuous Manufacturing. Tiziana Musacchio manages PIB’s website design and maintenance, and is actively involved in PIB’s event planning and logistics. PharmD, PhD, Tiziana is a Research Associate at the Center for Pharmaceutical Biotech and Nanomedicine at Northeastern University. Managers: Valentina Oppezzo, Nicola Orichuia, Marco Perucchi, Bastiano Sanna. PIB Advisory Board A highly-qualified PIB Advisory Board was instituted, comprised of top Italian professionals holding key influential positions in academia and industry. Objectives include: guiding PIB’s growth, increasing its visibility and range of action, facilitating integration with entities locally and in Italy, and creating a network of Italian excellence in Boston.
PIB Advisory Board Initial members include: Alberto Alesina: Prof of Political Economy at Harvard University, past Chairman of the Department of Economics. Was at Carnegie Mellon University. Giulio Draetta: Chief Business and Research Development Officer at Dana- Farber Cancer Institute, past Vice President at Merck Laboratories. Was at Pharmacia, European Institute of Oncology, Mixotic, Heidelberg, Cold Spring Harbor. Dante Roscini: senior lecturer in the Business, Government and the International Economy unit at Harvard Business School. Past Head of European Capital Markets for Goldman Sachs. Was at Merril Lynch, Morgan Stanley. Ettore Santucci: Senior Partner at Goodwin & Procter, past Associate at White & Case. Was at NOMISMA.

Collaboration with Italian public and private Institutions Meetings between PIB managers and key Italian public and private Institutions are laying the ground for active collaborations between Italy and Boston. PIB already engaged representatives from the Country Governing Bodies, Regional Governments, Italian Consulates, industrial unions and organizations, universities, companies, non-profit associations.

Professionisti Italiani all’Estero (PIE) (Italian Professionals Abroad) Inspired and counseled by PIB, independent groups of “Professionisti Italiani” have started or are starting in other cities. The PIE group, launched by Boston and co-managed by PI managers from all cities, allows resource sharing and growth coordination among groups. Partner cities may also join PIE in the near future.
