itm awards 2018 GETS UP FOR ITM unveiled a closely guarded secret at its 2018 Awards evening in August. NZ Hardware Journal was there for the big reveal… ITM’S BIG DAY this year was on Thursday 16 August, starting with the Annual Shareholders Meeting (ASM), followed by the 2018 ITM Awards. CEO Darrin Hughes’ first ASM was “extremely positive,” he says. “Shareholders were very engaged and very excited about the direction we are heading in.” Already in a good mood, the Shareholders and guests gathered later at The Cordis Auckland to celebrate their achievements for the year. The first surprise of the evening came as the assembled guests were bussed to a mystery destination – Auckland’s historic Town Hall. The stunning venue was dressed to the nines, acrobats were hanging from the ceiling and, with Simon Dallow as MC, the evening was set fair for a celebration. Little did the assembled guests know that there was another little something extra in the wings… ITM National Marketing Manager, Juliana Raven, explains: “Our brief to ourselves this year was to elevate the way that we approached the awards night and to really engage our shareholders by bringing them on the journey. “We wanted to lift the bar… We wanted a ‘wow factor’ when our shareholders walked in to show our appreciation, although obviously the pinnacle of the night was the ‘surprise’...” That “surprise” was the introduction on-stage, half way through the Awards, of the America’s Cup, complete with a stage-full of Emirates Team New Zealand (ETNZ) crew and staff. As is now generally known, ITM was announced as the first 18 NZHJ | SEPTEMBER 2018 MORE AT www.hardwarejournal.co.nz
itm awards 2018 exclusive supplier to ETNZ as it defends the America’s Cup in 2021. ITM will support ETNZ with a mix of money and materials, and in return ITM has multiple opportunities to get close to the action on the Hauraki Gulf and behind the scenes with ETNZ. In fact ITM will spend as much in leveraging this partnership coup as it is spending on the partnership itself, with plans to host shareholders and customers on and off the water, both during the lead-up to the defence of the 36th America’s Cup through the Challenger Selection Series (now The PRADA Cup) over January-February 2021 and during the America’s Cup Match itself in March. “This is a chance for us and for Emirates Team New Zealand to connect with Heartland New Zealand” Darrin Hughes: “This is a chance for us and for Emirates Team New Zealand to connect with Heartland New Zealand. So we’re leveraging our 95-odd stores to ensure that we share the Emirates Team New Zealand excitement with builders, businesses and sub- contractors, grassroots people throughout the country.” As if to back this up, the ETNZ members stayed for the rest of the night, as did the Cup (and its security guard), relaxed and happy to mix and mingle with the other guests.
