GALLIPOLI CENTENARY TOUR - 2015 About your Tour ANZAC Day 2015 Ballot The Turkish, Australia and New Zealand governments have put in place a ballot that will restrict access to ANZAC Cove on 25th April 2015 to a total of 10,000 people, 8,000 Australians and 2,000 New Zealanders. Ballot entry must be done on an individual basis and will not take into account groups travelling together, therefore being unsuitable for school groups taking in the centenary. The Tour: The tour has been designed around the historic 100 year anniversary of the Battle of Gallipoli. Due to the ballot system instituted for this event, the itinerary is designed so that ANZAC Day will be commemorated at the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux as well as exploring the battlefields of the Western Front. The tour will then travel to Turkey and explore the Gallipoli peninsula and its historic sights. The tour will deliver a unique educational experience with a balance of tourist and sightseeing opportunities. Destinations: The itinerary designed visits Belgium, France and Turkey, taking in some of the most significant battles of World War I and in particular Australia’s involvement in the Great War. The itinerary also takes in the wonderful cities of Paris and Istanbul, with both full of history, culture and sights. Educational Focus: The tour allows the group to visit some of World War I’s most significant sites, accompanied by local guides who will lead you on your tour of the battlefields, educate the group on the history of the sites as well as the stories of those who fought and sacrificed on them. The tour will take in the following sites, museums and memorials; Passchendaele Battlefield, Tyne Cot Cemetery, Langemarck German Cemetery, Hill 60, Caterpillar Crater, Buttes Cemetery, Messines Ridge, VC Corner, Australian Memorial Park, Pheasant Wood Cemetery, Thiepval Memorial, Australian National Memorial (Villers-Bretonneux), Adelaide Cemetery, Hamel Memorial, La Boiselle, Lochnagar Crater, Kabatepe Museum, ANZAC Cove Ari Burnu Cemetery, Shell Green Cemetery, Lone Pine Cemetery, Walkers Ridge Cemetery, Beach Cemetery, Shrapnel Valley, Plugges Plateau, Lone Pine Cemetery, Walkers Ridge, The Nek, Chunuk Bair, Turkish 57th Infantry Memorial, 4th Battalion Cemetery, Cape Helles Turkish Memorial, And Canakkale Naval Museum. Sightseeing: In addition to the historical sites the group will visit, the tour will take in the following sights in Paris; Arc de Triomphe, Champs de Elysee, Eiffel Tower, Musee Louvre, Notre Dame Cathedral. You will also have the opportunity to visit the Topkapi Palace, Blue Mosque, Hippodrome, Dolmabache Palace, Basilica of St Sophia, Grand Bazaar and a cruise on the Bosporus.
GALLIPOLI CENTENARY TOUR - 2015 Draft Tour Itinerary Day Date Details Overnight 1 21 APR 2015 Depart Australia for Europe. In Transit 2 22 APR 2015 Arrive Paris and travel to Ypres. Ypres Depart hotel for full day touring Ypres Battlefields, with the services of a Guide, including 3 23 APR 2015 Passchendaele Battlefield, Tyne Cot Cemetery, Sanctuary Wood Museum, Langemarck German Ypres Cemetery, Hill 60 and the Caterpillar Crater and Polygon Wood. Evening service at Menin Gate. Continue your tour of the Ypres Battlefields by visiting Buttes Cemetery and Messines Ridge, before travelling to Fromelles accompanied by your Military Historian to visit VC Corner, Australian 4 24 APR 2015 Memorial Park and Pheasant Wood Cemetery. You will then proceed to Pozieres for a visit and then Ypres continue onto Thiepval to visit Thiepval Memorial. An Anzac Day the group will never forget! The group has an early start driving to the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux. We will gather here with thousands of other Australians to 5 25 APR 2015 pay respects to our 45,000 countrymen who were killed during fighting on the Western Front. You Ypres will then have time to explore Villers-Bretonneux, with your military historian. In the afternoon you will visit the Franco-Australian Musuem, the Adelaide Cemetery and the Hamel Memorial. You will have a full day touring the Somme Battlefields including La Boiselle and Lochnagar Crater, 6 26 APR 2015 accompanied by your guide. Ypres The group will travel to Paris, arrive in the City of Lights and enjoy a guided city tour including the 7 27 APR 2015 Arc de Triomphe, Musee de L’Armee and Cathedral of Notre Dame. You will then have an evening Paris visit to the Musee Louvre. You will have the morning free to visit the Eiffel Tower and shop, before travelling to the airport and 8 28 APR 2015 departing for Istanbul. Arrive in Istanbul where you will be met by a bilingual representative and Istanbul transfer to your hotel. Travel to the Gallipoli Peninsula along with your guide. You will visit the Kabatepe Museum, ANZAC 9 29 APR 2015 Cove, Ari Burnu Cemetery, Shell Green Cemetery and Lone Pine Cemetery. You will finish the day Canakkale at the lookout near Walker Ridge Cemetery. The group will stay overnight in Canakkale. You will continue your tour of the Gallipoli Peninsula with your guide, taking in Beach Cemetery, th 10 30 APR 2015 Shrapnel Valley, Pluggers Plateau, Lone Pine, Walkers Ridge, The Nek, Chunuk Bair, Turkish 57 Canakkale th Infantry Memorial and 4 Battalion Cemetery. Continue your tour of the Peninsula with visits to Cape Helles, the Turkish Memorial, River Clyde, 11 1 MAY 2015 Canakkale Naval Museum and a visit to the ancient city of Troy. The group will then return to Istanbul Istanbul. You will have a full day guided tour of Istanbul including Topkapi Palace, Blue Mosque, Hippodrome, 12 2 MAY 2105 Dolmabache Palace, Congregation Centre of Byzantium, Basilica of St Sophia, Grand Bazaar and a Istanbul cruise on the Bosporus. 13 3 MAY 2015 Depart Istanbul for Australia, in transit overnight. GALLIPOLI CENTENARY TOUR - 2015 Cost Excludes: Airline taxes: These charges are made up of government and departure taxes, customs charges and fuel surcharges. Fuel surcharges are levied by the airlines and are based on fuel costs and are, unfortunately, completely outside of our control. Airline taxes, surcharges and levies are not included in the tour cost as they are continually fluctuating and will not be confirmed until tickets are issued approximately 6 weeks before departure, the amount will be added to your invoice at this time.
