SUMMER READING The Peterborough Public Library offers a variety of fun summer programs for children of all ages. Story Time in the Park Join us Tuesdays at 10:30 am throughout July and August for songs, stories, and rhymes at various City parks (weather permitting). Dress for the weather, bring your family and a blanket to sit on. TD Summer Reading Club Canada’s biggest bilingual reading program is for kids of all ages and abilities. Get your free kit beginning June 30, and track your reading online, read and review books, participate in weekly trivia, vote in the Battle of the Books, write and read jokes, and view author and illustrator readings and workshops. Register online. Ontario Parks Passes The Library has partnered with Ontario Parks to offer no-charge vehicle day use passes to Ontario’s provincial parks. Check out a pass with your library card and explore the great outdoors. Disc Golf Kits This summer the Library is offering disc golf kits for check out on your library card. Pick one up for a fun family day at one of Peterborough’s disc golf courses. DOWNTOWN YOUTH SPACE Grow to know yourself, try something different; this free drop-in centre offered by the Recreation Division provides fun activities for community youth age 13-18. • Free WIFI • Snacks and cooking • Pool table, foosball, air hockey, ping-pong • Special events, crafts, sports, boardgames • Laptops and printers, sitting areas • PlayStation, Wii, Xbox 360 DYS provides a positive way to express yourself, meet new people, and find a place where you belong. LEARN TO SWIM With Lifesaving Society’s programs you are never too old to learn, and never too young to start. The Peterborough Sport & Wellness Centre offers programs for all ages and abilities including Swim for Life, Swim Patrol, Aquatic Leadership courses, and Adult and Fitness Swimmer programs available in group-private or semi-private lessons. Swim Assessments We can help you find the best fit. Assessments are provided at no cost and conducted by experienced instructors who will recommend the best level based on your child’s current ability. If you did not participate in lessons in a previous session, we recommend receiving an assessment or registering for the level previously taken. Please call to schedule your assessment. Swim To Survive Basic swimming ability is a fundamental requirement to eliminating drowning in Canada. This program teaches the essential skills needed to survive an unexpected fall into deep water, an important first step to being safe around water. In this program you will learn the skill sequence of the Canadian Swim to Survive standard including: • ROLL into deep water • TREAD water for one minute • SWIM 50 metres This program is aimed primarily at children, but people of all ages should be able to perform the Society’s Swim to Survive standard. WELLNESS KIDS Summer is almost here! The Peterborough Sport & Wellness Centre has been planning the best play opportunities for young people this summer including fun time outside, exercise, friendship, creativity, and all the great things that go with our exciting day camps. The Centre offers weekly day camps for ages 4 to 13 from July 5 through September 3. The Centre also operates day camps for children age 4 to 8 at the Navy Club (Lansdowne Street West) from July 5 through September 3. Register online. Please note that the health and safety of our program participants and staff remains our highest priority; aspects of our summer camps and programs have been modified and may continue to change without notice as health guidance changes. This exhibit was developed by Fleming College’s Museum Management and Curatorship students in partnership with the Peterborough Museum & Archives. Discovery Day Camps Children age 4 through 13 can experience a new theme each week as you face outer space, travel back in time, conduct experiments and so much more! Camps run throughout July and August, and take place in large air conditioned barrier free spaces, Heritage Pavilion, galleries and surrounding green space including accessible play structure. FITNESS Pickleball Come play the game everyone is talking about. The City of Peterborough offers recreational to advanced leagues for those who have played before, and a Learn to Play program for those new to the game. TENNIS The City of Peterborough in partnership with Quaker Park Tennis Club offers daily and weekly tennis lessons in the spring, summer, and fall.
