N E W S L E T T E R PAWS HUMANE SOCIETY OF THE CHATTAHOOCHEE VALLEY | WINTER 2021 From Parking Lot to Pampered Pet When Lucian was first spotted in a Columbus, Ga., Walmart parking lot, it was clear he was looking for someone, anyone, to help him. He was in severe distress, alone and clearly forgotten about. The staff and volunteers at Paws Humane Society did not hesitate to come to his aid after he was impounded at Columbus Animal Care and Control. You see, neglect was apparent as soon as we laid our eyes on this precious black silky-coated pup. His collar was so severely embedded, it had cut deep into his flesh and caused a horrible infection. As serious as his wound was, there was no doubt this mistreatment occurred over a long period of time. While we were in despair at the thought of what all Lucian had endured, his spirit remained strong. After surgery and healing, Lucian’s personality blossomed as a vibrant dog who is playful and enjoys the company of his shelter friends. Lucian received the critical medical care he needed because of your ongoing generous support. We are able to continue our lifesaving mission because of you! This is greater than each of us. It will take all of us. Puppies are born knowing two things — loyalty and love. We must teach them everything else. When seven six-month-old puppies were surrendered to Paws Humane, their demeanor and body conditions suggested they had been neglected for quite some time. Covered in urine stains, underweight, and so shut down they were practically feral, we immediately knew they would not thrive in a shelter environment.
