July 2021 Foxey News ANNOUNCEMENT Administration is attempting to renew a Municipal Newsletter to keep our community in the loop. There are many aspects to the Municipality and we will start this first issue with news from various departments. A special thank you to Jane for giving us a little mes- sage to peak our interest to search for another way to get information out there. I am hoping this will help our community to acquire in- formation in a more accessible way. Kind Regards, Carrie Lewis, CAO/Clerk-Treasurer STAFF CHANGES AT THE MUNICIPALITY The Municipality of Gordon/Barrie Island says goodbye to Melanie Chatwell. After 13 years with us, Melanie has decided to retire and enjoy our community from anoth- er perspective. Council and Staff will miss Melanie very much; and I am sure the taxpayers will too. The Municipality would like you to join us in welcoming a new Deputy Clerk-Treasurer. Connor Woestenenk started his new position April 1st, 2021. Connor will be taking courses related to Municipal government and he welcomes the opportunity to learn and get familiar with the people in the community.

WE ARE HERE FOR YOU. Many people forget that the Council of the Municipality have established by- laws for the commu- nity to help keep it safe or to follow Zon- ing By-Law issues. Most By-Law items that we address in our community are Zoning and Municipal By-Laws are there to help complaint driven. MUNICIPAL BY-LAWS PLEASE SHOW Update from the By-Law Enforcement Officer YOUR RESPECT DID YOU KNOW… A building permit is required for any structure over 108 sq. ft. See By-Law#2010 -22 Reminder the 66’ shoreline allowance is the property of the Municipality, not the prop- erty owner. No work is to be done on shoreline allowances without approval from the Municipality. We want to keep all dog’s safe in our municipality, so please register and purchase your dog tag at the municipal office as per By-Law #2020-05. Your co-operation in abiding by Municipal By-Laws is greatly appreciated. Please be aware there are fines associated with being in non-compliance of our by-laws. MESSAGE FROM THE REEVE The Municipality of Gordon/Barrie Island is pleased to present a Community Safety and Well-Being Plan. This plan was a collaborative effort between eight Manitoulin Island communities. The priority was identified to work towards a common goal of a safe living environment and the overall well-being of all our residents and visitors. Gordon/Barrie Island is committed to working with all resources available to ensure the objectives of this plan are fulfilled. We understand that this will be a working document that will require updating and will evolve with time. The Municipality looks forward to future partnering projects with our neigh- boring Municipal and First Nations Communities.
