A believer who engages in all three of these aspects of faith, will mature into a disciple who burns brightly for Christ.
At First United Methodist Church – Jamestown, we have the WORSHIP SCHEDULE spark and we have some disciples, but we need more commitment. COVID-19 scattered us and disrupted our life together, but as the SUNDAY’S pandemic is slowly receding, we have added a second in-person-only 9:30am worship venue on Wednesday evenings as another option to worship besides or in addition to Sunday mornings. WEDNESDAY’S Pastor Michelle and I are excited about Worship on Wednes- 7:00pm days with M&M, and the enthusiasm of those who participate each week. We enjoy planning and leading the inspiring songs, fun lessons, and most importantly connecting to each other and to Christ. We are grateful to those who share in leading this mid- MAY week service. SAVE THE DATESS FOR MISSION U! Cindy Yeager Mission U Dean, Northern Site Mission u is coming virtually on Zoom this summer! United Methodist Women will be offering 2 virtual studies this summer. There are sev- eral ways to participate. You can do the studies individually from home, or maybe your unit would like to gather, in a small group, at church and sign-in to do it together. If the dates don’t work for you, we plan to record the events as well and you can watch them later. The first study will be a Spiritual Growth study: Bearing Witness in the Kin-Dom: Living into the Church’s Moral Witness by Darryl W. Stephens. This study will be led virtually by Pastor Michelle Brennan, of 1st UMC in Jamestown, ND, Thursday and Friday evening, July 15th and 16th, and on Saturday morning, July 17th. “In Jesus’ own words, he came to bring good news to the poor, release the captives, restore sight to the blind, and to let the oppressed go free. The purpose of this study is to help the church and it’s members discern our call and bear witness to the will of God for a more just world.” The second study to be offered will be the Issue study based on the book: Pushout: The Crim- inalization of Black Girls in Schools by Monique W. Morris. This study will be led virtually by Pastor Nancy Ellis, of Faith UMC in St. Anthony, MN, Thursday and Friday evening, August 12th and 13th, and Saturday morning, August 14th. “...the plight of black women and girls is often overlooked, underreported, and under analyzed. Pushout shows how even with obstacles, stigmas, stereotypes, and despair, black girls still find ways to breathe remarkable dignity into their lives, and challenges the rest of us to do the same.” Training is still occurring for the Dean Team of Mission u and the Study Leaders, so the details on how to register, and the exact times will be coming in the near future. The Bearing Witness book is available on the UMW website, and Pushout is available at your favorite book outlet. You’ll get the most from both studies if you can read them ahead of time. So, get ready! Mark your calendars, order your books, start reading, and watch for future up- dates! It has been a challenging year. The COVID-19 pandemic has created an eco- nomic recession, ending years of declining food insecurity rates – the lack of access to sufficient food because of limited financial resources. Feeding America estimates that 15 million children (1 in 5), may have experienced food insecurity in 2020. In North Dakota, 51,610 people are struggling with hunger - and of them, 16,700 are children. The North Dakota reality is one person out of every 15 and one of 10 children is struggling with hunger. The 2021 Miracle Offering: Feeding the Dakotas is a hope-bringing, spirit-fueled activity that will have a lasting impact on thousands of hungry people across the Dakotas Conference. Our goal for the 2021 Miracle Offering is $75,000 to be shared with the Great Plains Food Bank in North Dakota, Feeding South Dakota, and grants to local hunger ministries. As you prepare for the 2021 Annual Conference, please be in prayer for all the hungry people in the world, especially our neighbors living in our communities facing hunger. Please give to help end hunger in the Dakotas!
