Welcome to Berlin On behalf of the European Association for Osseointegration, it is our pleasure to announce that the EAO’s 29th annual scien- tific meeting will take place in Berlin, Germany, 8–10 October 2020. The meeting will be organised in cooperation with the German Association of Oral Implantology (DGI). The three-day event will feature world-renowned speakers and attract thousands of delegates from around the world. The an- nual EAO scientific meeting is one of the biggest events in the field and a truly global event. For the first time ever, we are delighted to welcome two guest countries to the conference: the United States of America and Russia. Delegates from these countries will be able to register at discounted rates, and we look forward to welcoming a number of delegates from both countries to Berlin. One of the city’s most famous historical landmarks is the Berlin wall. Although the wall came down some 30 years ago, it is still synonymous with division and seemingly insurmountable barriers. As practitioners and researchers, many of the barri- ers we face today exist between the different specialities and disciplines of implant dentistry, or even are in our own heads. The theme for the EAO’s 2020 congress will therefore be ‘Tear down this wall’. These words are inspired by the former US President, Ronald Reagan, who famously called for the wall to be dismantled. In this spirit, next year’s congress will seek to break down boundaries in conventional thinking in implant dentistry and encourage speakers and delegates to think out- side the box. The conference will come alive with highly interactive sessions to engage and involve not only the delegates attending in per- son, as well as colleagues tuning in remotely for the sessions being broadcast online. The meeting will provide great oppor- tunities for networking and sharing high-level research and news about innovative technology. We hope you can join us in Berlin for this ground-breaking event and help us inspire the future of implant dentistry.
