FINZ Magazine Editor: Ron Melville Recipient of (CLC) The Yann Saunders International Activity Award 2013 The Maurice Hendry Award for Excellence in Rendezvous! Journalistic Contributions - 2015 International Newsletter Excellence Award - 2015 Old Cars Weekly ~ Golden Quill Award 2011, Hi all. Hope you all like the this month’s cover picture? For all of 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 & 2019 us long-time CLC NZ members, of course it is the locally famous Contributions to: finzmagazine@gmail.com ‘67 De Ville lovingly known as Delores and owned by Neville The Editior reserves the right to accept or reject Carter of Taranaki. So what have you been doing this summer? I do hope you’ve had a few cruises in your Caddy and if so, be like the ‘Naki Region and send in a story and some photos. At time of writing 2 (mid February) I am only days away from getting my repaired Calais back and I am looking forward to organising a run Cadillacclubofnz.org somewhere with other Bay of Plenty members to blow out the cob webs! One of the best things we can have in our Kiwi magazine is Kiwi content. This month, thanks to the Taranaki Region and the Thrupps for sending in something ‘Kiwi!’ Being part of the ‘Global Family’ means of course sharing with you other snippets and articles/ photos from our other wonderful friends around the world, some of which we hope to meet again one day, ‘post-Covid!’ We will always be part of the Global CLC Family. An invitation from me to all members out there that maybe attending an outing over summer. Please send in a few photos and a few lines and let us know what you got up to. There’s bound to be a few stories in the pipeline what with AmeriCARna and Beach Hop on the February and March calendars. I am sure your fellow Kiwi members will love you for it! Attached is disappointing news that the Australian CLC Mudgee event in NSW has been formally cancelled. However with luck you can accompany (at your own cost) Steve and myself to Queensland in 2022, Covid permitting! More soon, I am sure! Lastly, as always, cruise safely out there and don’t forget to ‘Scan!’ We all want to remain in Alert Level One as long as we can! Ron, Ed We formed our New Zealand club in 1973 and celebrated our 40th Anniversary in 2013 making us one of the oldest Cadillac clubs in the world. We are proud to be an International Affiliate of the world-wide Cadillac LaSalle Club of the USA - itself formed in 1958.
Taranaki knows how to sow the seeds for a great day out! Wow. The epitome of a great Kiwi Caddy club day outing - Lots of members, lots of cars, lots of sun, camaraderie and fun! All the natural ingredients to what the Kiwi club is all about. Whilst there will always be members doing their own thing (and there’s nothing wrong with that, I myself have something to report next issue). After all let’s face it, there is so little Kiwi content that comes forward, some is better than none at all, right? Otherwise an entire mag full of Kiwi content may amount to one double-sided page! LOL! Ed. So read on about what the Naki crowd got up to on Valentines 3 Day (they took their beloved Caddy or other loved-one out!) Great photos as well. Thanks Noeleen for the only Kiwi Regional Cadillacclubofnz.org report this month! Ed Above, the Valentines picnic. Look closely, it has Cadillac on the pedal car! Seeds for ever! A sample above.
In memory of Fred Bausch! From time to time, we will pay homage to the late-great Fred Bausch who lived for his Cadillac passion and despite his health and age, attended as many Cadillac events around the world as he could (what a member!) Ed Schreffler Pontiac-Cadillac-GMC Inc. Sunbury Pennsylvania. Back before the large “Mega 4 Dealers” began to become entrenched in the 1960s, small family run operations were Cadillacclubofnz.org reasonably common across the US. The featured images are of Schreffler Pontiac-Cadillac-GMC Inc., located at 800 Market St. in Sunbury, PA, owned and operated by Truman E. Schreffler. The lead image and the enlargeable version of it below were taken during the 1957 model year. In the showroom are a pair of Cadillacs and a Pontiac convertible. In the left front window is a neon “Power Steering” sign, and on the far right, another neon sign and a V-8 display engine. On the far left rear of the showroom is the sales office and on the right the parts department. The service department is located in the back of the building. The second photo below is a view of the dealership in the early-1950s, and a better view of the signs. Thanks to photograph contributor Benjamin Ames. Another memory of Fred Bausch! Parking Lot Series: Freshmen Move-In Day at Ball State College. This scene was captured from a rooftop on September 8, 1964, at Ball State Teachers College located in Muncie, IN. Freshmen Move-In Day for many students ranks as one of the most significant days in their life. We see quite a few parents, everyday family cars and only a small number of imports. The four dormitories in this image are: The Studebaker West and East, Noyer, and Woodworth Imagine going back in time to a car park like this. It’d complexes. Glory Days of Cadillac Just what were ‘The Glory Days?’ The Frivolous 20s? The Thrifty My mission for 2021 is to feature what I believe were ‘The Glory 30s? The Fortunate 40s? The Fabulous 50s? The Sensational 60s or Days’ of our favourite marques - the ‘Best of the Best Cadillacs the Sedate 70s? and LaSalles’. In my quest to find the best photos to share with you I discovered our fellow members at the infamous Potomac These ‘Fin-tastic’ photos come as a result of the Annual Region in Washington possess a collection of argubly the ‘best’ Capitol Cadillac car show organised by the CLC Potomac images around.
