Filey Town Guide 2020/21 Filey Town Guide 2020/2021 Local Government The Filey Town Council serves a community of approximately 7,000 residents. It consists of 13 Councillors, elected for a term of 4 years who will hold office until 2023. Evening meetings are held in the Council Chamber at the Council Offices on the second Wednesday of each month at 7.00 pm. In addition, Planning meetings are held on a fortnightly basis or as required. Filey Town Guide 2020/21 Filey’s Cycling Hero Filey-born Herbert Liddell Cortis was the first cyclist to ride 20 miles in an hour, breaking the record at Crystal Palace on 27th July 1882. Today, this record has been beaten many times over but this set the bench-mark in an era when bikes were not designed for speed.
