Welcome Delegate Programme 2021 Are you looking for some events to pique your interest, spark ideas and provide some inspiration? For those of you who interested in the Edinburgh Science Festival in a professional context, we have put together this guide as part of our Delegate Programme 2021 offering to highlight some events we thought might be of interest from either a format, context or development perspective. Full details of each event can be found on the Edinburgh Science Festival’s website as well as any booking details that are required. Edinburgh Science is an organisation that creates and delivers the very best in innovate events and experiences that bring science to life, and is at the forefront of international excellence in science engagement. We are on a mission to inspire, encourage and challenge people of all ages and backgrounds to explore, understand and engage with the world around them. Exhibitions and Installations In a year that has imposed tricky restrictions on both event In Memoriam organisers and audiences, hands-on and/or indoor events have proved difficult. Exhibitions and installations have emerged as a fantastic format for engaging the public with science safely. The added benefit is that they provide a great way to intertwine science with other specialities such as art and to take science to wider and more diverse audiences. Collaborations & Partnerships Not all of our events are either created entirely in-house or Two in a Barrel provided by a 3rd party. We are also extremely keen on [Accessible on-line/remotely] collaborations, especially exploring partnerships that bring together science and the arts/digital and creative industries in an environment in which we are able to learn from each other’s areas of expertise and can co-create great new content. Walks, Tours and Trails What a better year than this one to embrace the outdoors. Our Deep Time Walk programme often includes events which encourage exploration outside, either on your own or as a group, but this year there has been a real emphasis on events of this sort, which allow our audience to safely explore and engage with STEM locally to them. Workshops We are well known for our large selection of hands-on Creative Cartons workshops, usually filling 5 floors of Edinburgh’s City Art Centre [Accessible on-line/remotely] with those we have produced in house, as well as those we and our partners ordinarily present in other Festival venues. This year, however, none of this was possible and we have needed to get creative about how we can deliver hands-on activities in a way that is both safe and convenient. Shows There is a certain something a show brings that you can’t achieve The Flea Circus – The Smallest Show on in any other format – those moments of real wow as well as Earth that feeling of communal experience that only a theatre creates. Discussions and activities This year we and our partners have had to take a real look at Seeing Music Live the formats that we could deliver this programme for adults [Accessible on-line/remotely] and young people. Although some form of events, either socially distant or outdoor might have been possible, a lot of our audience are not at a stage where they feel comfortable to attend these types of events.
