CHRISTIAN EDUCATION Kris Rice, Christian Education Director 462-0810, ext. 102, kcrice@optimum.net He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. Mark 4:39 I hope everyone had a nice Christmas and wish you all a Happy New Year in 2021! I miss all of you so much and hope you are doing okay and that we can be together soon! Sunday School has teachers present for Pre-K through 2nd grade and 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades (also online). Our Junior High, 6th, 7th and 8th grades are online only on Sunday mornings. If a student would like to sign up for the Zoom Class, please email me. Any questions? Please call me. Safety guidelines are in effect with all children wearing masks and hand-sanitizing upon entering classrooms. I want to make sure that you feel comfortable having your children coming in to Sunday School. The Church (Sunday) Nursery will not be open until further notice. Our Confirmation Class of 2021 classes will tentatively begin at the end of February. A letter will be sent to 9th grade students outlining the details. Our Sunday School Advent Mission (HRH’s River Haven Shelter for Youth), donations amounted to a total of $630.00! (Outreach Council added in $100). So far 33 $10.00 Gift Cards from Target, Michaels’ and “5 Below” were given to the Shelter before Christmas. The rest (30 more) will be given to the Program Manager, Christina Caserta, to hand out. A Big Thank You to all who gave to this important mission! We gave many boxes and cans of dog and cat food and treats to C.A.R.E. (Compassionate Animal Rescue Efforts) of Dutchess County, located in Wappingers Falls. It is a “No-kill” non-profit adoption agency to find “fur-ever” homes for dogs and cats. This was for our Sunday School Lenten Mission, “Feed Our Furry Friends” that went from spring through the summer. They were very appreciative for the donations. Thank you for your contributions. There will be no Sunday School classes on February 14th (President’s weekend). We will have “Children’s Place” available. In His Service, Kris Rice Christian Education Director 3

PIGGY BANK BAZAAR Greetings from Kermit! In keeping with the end of 2020 – a most unusual year among you humans – it seems really strange that I’m not detailing how many goodies were sold at the Bazaar, and I’m not announcing the Wednesday Morning Workshop dates just yet, because of the COVID pandemic. Mrs. Ray (my nice human friend who is very careful about the wellbeing of all the Piggy Bank Workers) tells me that because there is an upswing in the current pandemic, there will be no Workshops in February. Hopefully, they’ll be underway again in March – stay tuned! Donations of supplies and gifts from so many of you wonderful people have been a big part of the Bazaar’s continuing success. Even during 2020 many of you have given us all kinds of donations. The Piggy Bank folks really enjoy looking through all the contributed goodies, and thinking up new things to make with them. Additionally, there are some specific supplies that will be a big help, including plastic storage boxes and tubs, polyester stuffing, scissors, dowel sticks, new nails and screws, pompoms, yarn, macramè cord, jingle bells, new ornaments, small Christmas stockings, mugs, containers for candy, ribbon, fabric, craft paints, scrap book paper and supplies, new pencils and pens, stickers, yardsticks, wiggle eyes, button magnets, rhinestones, sea shells, silk flowers, floral foam, vases, basket grass, Christmas gift wrapping paper, Christmas gift bags, Christmas bows, tissue paper, and other miscellaneous craft supplies. We also count on YOU to provide many handled shopping bags and department store bags. (In the last Bazaar we had to break out our reserves.) If you have supplies for Piggy Bank, they can be left in Room 15 or, if the building is not open, outside the door near Keith’s office. (If you leave them there, please label them for Piggy Bank.) That’s all the news for now. Hopefully, things will get more active in the coming months. Regardless, I’ll be hanging around my pond (frozen though it is) and looking forward to seeing you again!! Yours in love, Kermit 7
Dear Kermit, It is bizarre to think that the 2020 Piggy Bank Bazaar was cancelled as were so many festivities last year. Meanwhile, you, our chief publicity spokesman continued to keep our readers informed about the happenings concerning our meetings. We know that our Froggy friend is you, Joe Allen, and we know it is your intention to steer our readers to be prepared for the 45th annual Piggy Bank Bazaar. Thank you, The Piggy Bankers Campanola Ringers The Campanola Ringers will start up rehearsals again in mid-February~ Monday evenings 7pm-8pm in the balcony We plan to ring on Daffodil Sunday, Palm Sunday, Easter Sunday, and Cantate Sunday. If you would like to ring with us on any or all of those Sundays, please contact Pat McCullough as soon as possible so, based upon the number of ringers, music can be selected, prepared, and ready by early February. Please contact Pat McCullough call or text (845)240-6451 or pat.sightandsound@gmail.com Happy New Year! On behalf of the nursery school, I wish you all happiest and healthiest of New Years. Outreach Ministry Gail V. Webster Homeless Shelter We have completely met each and every monthly commitment for 2020 all through the pandemic. We hope to be able to continue through all of 2021. We currently have January, February and March, October covered for volunteers. If anyone is interested in volunteering, please let Arra know. It was decided that in the future, if we need to order a meal from Adams, we would order something like Chili and rice and ask the congregation for salad, bread, butter and cookies. Liberty Station The food donations have been coming in pretty well. Joan and Arra average 1-2 deliveries each month with food pickup from church at almost every other day. 2020 Missions of the Month January Dutchess Interfaith Council $197 February The Lunch Box $284 March Meals On Wheels $220 April Rural & Migrant Ministry $175 May Grace Smith House $192 June NHRC Youth $215 July Dutchess Hospice $195 August Dutchess Outreach $195 September Gail Webster Shelter $270 October ALS Foundation $490 November Church World– Hurricane Relief and Western Fires $370 December Food Bank of The Hudson Valley & Hope On A Mission $402 2020 Easter Special Offering: $2,010.00 - Rural & Migrant Ministry 2020 Thanksgiving Special Offering: $925 Church World Service– Hurricane and Western Fire Relief 2020 Christmas Eve Special Offering: $2,495 Food Bank of The Hudson Valley & Hope On A Mission Food Bank will get $1,871.25 & Hope on a Mission will get $623.75 9
Outreach Ministry Sisters In Christ We did another another Zoom Ladies Night Out. We did have about 5 ladies but not sure if the interest is really there. Looking to see if there is continued interest. Book Club – they are still meeting via zoom. Blood Drive Due to the current pandemic, the Blood Drive dates are on hold until further notice. Gift Card Program – organized by Sue Kimmerle. Miss Sue started a collection of $5 Dunkin Donuts gift cards to hand out to all the homeless guests at the shelter. She collected 100 cards that were distributed in the Fall and she collected an additional 100 cards that were distributed in December. She will continue with her collection and when she gets 100 cards, we will distribute them once again. Baby Blankets and Hats Another program that Outreach is very proud of. Amy Burger continues to crochet baby blankets and Liz Miedowski the little Baby Hats that are donated to either Vassar Brothers Medical PICU or Orange County Medical PICU. To date we have delivered hundreds of these blankets. At this time NONE of the hospitals are taking any of these homemade donations due to Covid-19. We have approximately 160 blankets to donate but will have to wait until the pandemic is over. Our in-house crochet ladies have been notified to stop making them at this time. Hope on a Mission Another program that we are interested in supporting. Anthony Foppiano has been involved in this program for a year now and it’s a local mission. The organizer’s name is Cara Mia. They serve a meal on Saturdays at 6pm and 7pm. They rely on donations from restaurants to serve. They serve up to 200 people. They are looking for the small hotel size of toiletries. If you would like to donate to this Mission, please bag up your donation(s) and CLEARLY label it “Hope of a Mission” and put the bag in the footlocker outside Keith’s office. Outreach will once again pick it up and delivery it to the appropriate location. 10
Outreach Ministry Food Donation Bin Remains outside the entrance doors near Rev. Tamlyn’s office. There is an additional one inside the doors across from Rev. Tamlyn’s office. There are signs at each bin that we are NOT collecting any clothing. We have contacted over 5 organizations in Dutchess County and they all are not taking clothing donations due to Covid. Any clothing that is dropped off will not be picked up and delivered. There is not any available storage space for clothing to be stored until the pandemic is over. Reverse Advent Food Collection There was a tremendous amount of food collected that Joan and I picked up. Half of it went to the Zion Episcopal Church Food Pantry and the other half went to the St. Mary’s Food Pantry in Wappingers. They both were completely thankful. With the Thanksgiving and Christmas handouts, their shelves were very low. Thank you to EVERYONE who participated in the Food Collection. For the first year, it was a huge success and Outreach plans to do it again Advent 2021. Missionaries The Fields, who are our missionaries in Columbia, were sent home because their Visas expired. They waited months for them to be renewed but they finally were renewed. However, they still need to get the children’s visas. But, Columbia is currently under severe Covid cases, so not sure if they will be able to go back. Josh Bode, who is our missionary in Oman, is equally back in the USA. He is still looking for more assistance which we will give him but not sure why he is home. 11
