(i.e. if you have green and blue as your color strips, you would designate blue for when they showed an act of kindness and green for when an act of kindness was shown to them) 4. Once they have written the act of kindness on both colors, allow them to decorate as well. 5. Once steps 3 and 4 are completed you can have a discussion and allow campers to share their stories. 6. It will be an activity that needs to be completed as an early in the day activity because they will come back to see it later in the day (or show at closing ceremonies) Counselor Prep Prior to Activity: Ensure supplies are gathered and each mason jar is filled with a cup of each liquid. Space Needed: Tables and Chairs Activity Instructions: 1. Start by dissolving the concept of dissolving. Discuss how we used dissolved substances in day to day life (see Make it Last/Helpful Tips) 2. Place a peep in each mason jar. 3. Flip the peeps every 20 minutes throughout the day 4. At the end of the day (or at closing ceremonies) observe the peeps. Make It Last/Helpful Tips ● Science Questions to ask: ○ Why do some liquids dissolve the Peeps faster? ○ What is the best liquid to dissolve the peeps? ○ Will changing the temp of the liquids change how quickly the Peeps dissolve? How/Why it works: Peeps are made up of ingredients that are water soluble. This means they will dissolve in water. Dissolving is the process of a substance being broken up and absorbed by another material. When the Peeps are added to the liquid, the sugar and other ingredients dissolve into the surrounding liquid. The liquids with the higher acidity broke the sugar down faster than the liquids with less acidity. https://www.adabofgluewilldo.com/dissolving-peeps-science-experiment-for-kids/ Spring Break Explorer Program 2020

Give each group a piece of paper, a pencil and a copy of the Game Creation Resource 3. Explain that the campers are going to have approx. 5-10 minutes to come up with a game to teach the other campers. For younger campers the Game Creation Resource will be helpful as they can just answer the questions on the sheet. If you have an older age group, they may just use this as a reference and work more independently. 4. Allow campers to work in their small groups. COUNSELORS should be walking around and assisting campers with their game creation (especially the younger explorers, they will need more help from counselors) 5. After 5-10 minutes of creating the game, allow campers to share their game and if time allows play one of the games. Make It Last/Helpful Tips: ● Helpful tip on separating out campers into small groups: ○ Have campers stand in one line and number 1-4 and then start again until all campers have a number. From their all the 1’s form a group, all the 2’s form a group, etc. ● Keep the camper’s games creations handy for go to games later in the day/week ● Another option is to work as one large group to come up with a game (i.e. have campers sit in a circle and work to answer the questions on the Game Creation Resource as a whole) Spring Break Explorer Program 2020

Once campers are done drawing on their paper have them take turns spraying the watercolor sheet with the water bottle. a. Remind the campers that they do not need to soak their paper. Simply spray a little all over the paper. The more they spray the longer it will take to dry and move onto step 6 4. Once they have sprayed their sheet have them apply the tissue paper squares randomly or in a planned arrangement. a. It is recommended to spray more water over the squares to accelerate the color “bleeding” 5. For best results, allow the water to dry before removing the squares 6. Once the squares are removed the color will have transferred onto the watercolor sheet, revealing your drawing and the color from the squares Website: https://www.ssww.com/blog/tissue-paper-painting-bleeding-color-art-activity/ Spring Break Explorer Program 2020

If more than one foot is on the ground, the lifeline will disappear (take it up). ● If a group just gets it, add a challenge to the mix. (blindness, one arm, one leg, mute) Reflection Question Ideas: ● What was hard about this activity? ● What made it work? ● What strengths did everyone see in the group? ● If presented with a challenge, how did that make you feel?
