Expedition Camino Inca y Atacama
Chile - Argentina

South America is synonymous with adventure.

We will cross The Andes, the longest mountain range on
earth, whose terrain will accompany us for the most part
of our road. We will get to know some of the hundreds of
volcanoes and look at its most impressive gorges. All this
we will do on our motorcycles.

We will follow the trace of the ancient Inca roads and
discover what they left behind. And lest it be said this trip
is not an adventure, we will also cross some of the Dakar
sites.

In the last phases of our road, we will live the experience
of crossing the most arid desert of the world: the
Atacama, which-far from being a lifeless place, still
retains the native energy of its past.

                                                                Are you ready?

We will leave from Santiago and cross the
Andes at an altitude of more than 10.500ft.,
zigzagging on a perfect road for the two

Expedition Camino Inca y Atacama
DAY 3
Mendoza – Villa Unión (556 km)

We start the day with the famous Ruta 40.
We abandon the green colors of the winery
fields to enter a more arid scenario.

The first stage of the day we will accomplish
upon arriving to San Juan, from where we
will divert and take another more attractive
route arriving through Rodeo to San José de
Jachal.

From this moment we start to see to our
right the Nacional Talampaya Park, a
landscape that will accompany us until we
reach Villa Unión.

Once we are settled in our comfortable
lodgings, and for those who still have
strength left, we can visit the Cañón del
Triásico, a few kilometers from the hotel.
Expedition Camino Inca y Atacama
DAY 4
 Villa Unión – Cafayate (580
 km)

Our day starts with the longest stage of the
whole trip! We can do it!

After a good breakfast, we leave on our
way to Cuesta de Miranda, and we will
brush with our motorcycles, its fabulous
curvy roads.

We will continue to the north until we
reach Belén, a small village where we will
stop and visit one of its local weaving
machines.

Past midday, we will continue our journey
crossing small villages which blend into this
red mountainous terrain with little
vegetation.

Arriving to Cafayate, we will visit the
famous Ruins of Quilmes and get to know
its history.
Expedition Camino Inca y Atacama
DAY 5
       Cafayate – Free day

After a few days of road, we deserve to
relax and rest.

The surroundings of Cafayate offer us
diverse activities.
We can drive a few kilometers and get
to know the Quebrada de las Conchas,
visit the Museum of Wine and do a wine
tasting. We can also visit the famous
Cheese Manufacture.

If you want to relax, you can also choose
a nice walk through the Plaza de Armas
and visit its more characteristic corners.

You choose according to your
preference!

DAY 6
    Cafayate – Salta (320 km)

Having well rested, it is time to put on
our suits again and continue our journey.
On this day we will mix asphalt and road
in equal parts.

We will know the Quebrada de las
Flechas, which will make us feel like true
adventurers among its completely arid
and pointed hills. We will continue to
Cachi, where we can rest and eat
something.

The second part of the route will be
transited by one of the most mythical
places in the area, the Cuesta del Obispo,
with stunning bird sightings. We will go
down the valley by a narrow and
spectacular highway, until arriving at the
plain that will lead us to Salta, capital of
the region.
Expedition Camino Inca y Atacama
DAY 7
      Salta – Tilcara (318 km)

Having elapsed the ecuador part of the
trip, we are now in the north of
Argentina. This day we will see how the
abrupt vegetation of the Salta
environment turns into dust when we
reach the Tilcara area. The aridity and
those thousands of reddish tones and
their respective contrasts appear again.

The day will not end here, we will have
the opportunity to visit the impressive
Cerro de los 14 colores, in Humahuaca, a
small town just a few kilometers from the
border with Bolivia.

Once in Tilcara and if we still have
strength left, we can also visit the Pucará
de los Tilcaras.

After a day of visiting different sights, we
will get to enjoy a good dinner and a
comfortable
mattress.
DAY 8
Tilcara – San Pedro (436 km)

It is probably one of the most
beautiful days to drive our
motorcycles and enjoy a setting like
no other.

We start the day driving among
steep hills of colors, stopping to
rest in the Salinas Grandes at more
than 13,000 feet, until we reach the
border with Chile.

Once the customs paperwork is
done, we will descend the
mountain range through the lakes
and volcanoes of the region, in a
spectacular route.

We will continue descending until
we meet for the first time and in
person, the king of deserts,
the Atacama.
DAY 9
    San Pedro – Free day

We deserve another day of rest, and
our motorcycles too.

San Pedro is one of the postcards
when one talks about Chile. It was
the center of development of
Atacameñan culture and an outpost
point for the Incas.

For those who want it, a local guide
will transport us to see the Tatio
Geysers and if there is time, we will
know the Valley of the Moon.

In the evening we can enjoy some
local food and a walk through its
square and its streets of earth and
adobe.
DAY 10
San Pedro – Caldera (799 km)

The longest day of the trip in terms of
distance. In time, very similar to previous
days.

On this day we will drive in a straight line
for many stretches, leaving behind
mining complexes and a steppe of land
and mountains. In spite of everything,
this lunar landscape has its charm.

Arriving in Antofagasta, on the coast, we
will take a detour along Route 5, where
in a few kilometers we will stop to visit
La Mano del Desierto.

We will continue to the south, bordering
the coast and we will arrive in the middle
of the afternoon at Caldera/Bahía
Inglesa, a small villages on the seafront
that will host us until the next day.
DAY 11
Caldera – La Serena (422 km)

We will leave Caldera to cross the
secondary road that connects the
Pacific with the continent.
Entertaining road with beautiful views
of the sea.

Upon reaching Huasco and Vallenar,
we will return to Route 5 to continue
touring the Desert Route and reach La
Serena. It is in this city, with a
beautiful colonial center, that the
Atacama desert will end.

La Serena is already perceived as a big
city, with services, a recipient of
tourism and more similar to a
cosmopolitan city like Santiago.

We will know its Plaza de Armas and
its local market.
DAY 12
   La Serena – Free day

This day, a short distance from La
Serena, we will visit the Elqui
Valley, known throughout the
country for growing and
manufacturing the national drink,
pisco.

We will visit huge wine areas where
this vine is grown and we will
experience firsthand how one of
the most famous pisquerías in the
country works, where we will also
taste the different varieties.

As always, whoever wants to do
another activity, can do it.
DAY 13
La Serena – Santiago (548 km)

Last day of travel. We will leave La
Serena and we will go to visit the city
of Valparaiso.

Also known as the Jewel of the
Pacific, it is a bohemian and colorful
city, planted with labyrinthine hills in
which you find a different scenario
every day. City full of live music, art
galleries and gastronomic places.
We will visit its port and coves and
we will eat a good fish.

Once the digestion is done, we will
continue to Santiago to finish the
expedition.

Farewell dinner!
