World Day Against Trafficking in Persons: 30th July The world day against trafficking in persons is marked on July 30 every year. The day is observed every year to raise awareness about the menace of human trafficking and to protect the human rights of the victims. The day is also dedicated to promote and protect the rights of people. The 2020 theme for the World Day Against Trafficking: “Committed to the Cause-Working on the Frontline to End Human Trafficking”. Lord Ram's images to be displayed in Times Square to celebrate Ram Temple's groundbreaking ceremony Images of Lord Ram and 3D portraits of the grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya will be beamed across the giant billboards in the iconic Times Square in New York on August 5 to celebrate the temple's groundbreaking ceremony, with organisers describing the commemoration as a one-of-a-kind and a historic event.
Beginning from 8 AM on August 5 till 10 PM, images of the words ‘Jai Shri Ram' in Hindi and English, Lord Ram's portraits and videos, 3D portraits of the temple's design and architecture as well as pictures of the laying of the foundation stone by Modi will be displayed across several billboards on Times Square. Guwahati gets Northeast's first manhole cleaning robot 'BANDICOOT' The Guwahati Development Department Minister inaugurated the city's first manhole cleaning robot to ensure minimal human involvement to clean the sewers. Guwahati is the first city in the entire Northeast region to get a manhole cleaning robot. Named 'BANDICOOT'. The BANDICOOT robot was developed by a Start-up India company called Genrobotics under the Make in India initiative, funded by CSR of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL). Guwahati is the third city in the entire country to procure this innovative technology to clean manholes after Gurugram and Coimbatore. HRD Ministry to be renamed as Ministry of Education The Ministry of Human Resource Development has been renamed as the Ministry of Education. The Union Cabinet has approved the change in the name of the ministry. The HRD Ministry is currently headed by Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank. The HRD ministry name was adopted in 1985, during the tenure of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, as it was changed from the Ministry of Education. The changes in the name of the ministry have been proposed in order to focus on education and learning.
Asian Development Bank approves three million US dollar grant to India The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a three million US dollar grant to India from its Asia Pacific Disaster Response Fund (APDRF). This grant will further support the government’s emergency response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This support will enhance disease surveillance and help in early detection, contact tracing, and treatment. ADB approved a 1.5 billion US dollar COVID-19 Active Response and Expenditure Support (CARES) Programme to support India in its immediate pandemic response efforts. Delhi govt reduces VAT on diesel to 16.75 pct The Delhi government has reduced VAT on diesel from 30 per cent to 16.75 per cent . The decision was taken following a state cabinet meeting, The cut in VAT on diesel would reduce the price of the automobile and industrial fuel in Delhi to 73 rupees 64 paise. The price of diesel will come down by eight rupees 36 paise per litre in the national capital. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that the rate of VAT on diesel was being brought back to 16.75 percent from 30 percent. First govt-run interstate chopper service flagged off in Uttarakhand
In Uttarakhand, the first government-run inter-state chopper service that connects Dehradun to Garhwal hills was flagged off. It will boost tourism in the hills. The flight on the Dehradun-New Tehri-Srinagar-Garhwal Gauchar route is operated by the state-run Pawan Hans Limited under the Central Government's Regional Connectivity Scheme of 'Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik'. The flight was flagged off virtually by the Minister of Civil Aviation Hardeep Singh Puri and Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat. The airfare between Dehradun and New Tehri has been fixed at 2,903 rupees and the distance will be covered in 25 minutes. One has to spend a similar amount to travel on Tehri-Srinagar and Srinagar-Gauchar route. The helicopter service would boost Char Dham Yatra tourism since Dehradun has direct connectivity now with Gauchar in Chamoli district which houses Badri Nath Temple one of the four shrines in the state. Bharti AXA General Insurance starts ‘Bohot Zaroori Hai’ campaign Bharti AXA General Insurance has launched a crop insurance campaign titled ‘Bohot Zaroori Hai’. It has been launched for farmers in Maharashtra and Karnataka to encourage them about their yield protection and financial security. Bharti AXA General Insurance will ensure the farmers in Maharashtra and Karnataka for a period of three years under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna (PMFBY). Bharti AXA General Insurance has received Rs 800 crore worth crop insurance mandate from the governments of Maharashtra and Karnataka for 3 years.
Apart from this, under ‘Bohot Zaroori Hai’, the farming communities will be made aware about the relevance and significance of crop insurance that mitigates the rural distress caused by crop failure or damage due to factors like unseasonal rains, monsoon failure, storms, floods, pests and diseases. Namami Gange project included in ‘Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Public Administration' This year, the Namami Gange project has been included in the prestigious ‘Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Public Administration'.
