STATEMENT His artistic practice is based on related concepts which are: Maps and geography of the countries. The contemporary perception of the landscape, between real and digital. Historical and traditional trip and routes. As he often stresses, drawing is for him a way to think about the space that surrounds us. After he graduated from Accademia di belle arti di Firenze In 2017, Antonio was granted an Art Residency by Art Apartments in London, which inspired him to take a fresh look at an old English custom of a traditional trip of Europe with a project called ‘Reverse Grand Tour’. In his latest research he have been working with large journey and routes that have characterized history, culture and the collective imagination. He relates them to the contemporary perception of the landscape in the post-media society. One of them was, in 2019, the ‘New Silk Road’ research inspired by the geographical-economical strategy of the Chinese republic called ‘one Belt one Road’.
ZONE ROSSE SU PAESAGGI IMMAGINARI PERSONAL PROJECT - QUARANTINE - ITALY - 2020 During the quarantine period from Covid-19 in Italy in March, April 2020 I developed a series that investigates the external landscape; specially the Italian landscape taken from some of my personal memories in a time of imprisonment in which I could not physically walk outside or travel. A series of artwork composed of collages of photographs taken and collected over the years during family holidays, on which landscapes overlapped between the imaginary and reality. The red chromatic areas on the map are also alluding to the territories that were limited and blocked during the lockdown, called in italian “red areas” (zone rosse). The reality has gone beyond imagination; these works are nothing more than a way to elaborate the present time and tell what I could not do with words. 13.04.2020 VOGLIA DI VOLARE VIA Mixed media on paper: pencil, permanent marker, photo and glue on paper; 35 x 25 cm; 2020 [6/6]

DIARIO DI QUARANTENA PERSONAL PROJECT - QUARANTINE - ITALY - 2020 During the quarantine period from Covid-19 in Italy, in March and April 2020, I decided to work on a series that portrays everyday objects, including some that we were not used to using: such as surgical mask and gloves. I chose to work with white tempera on paper because it represents in my perception words as: daily, aseptic, delicate, indefinite, uncertain, reassuring. This quarantine diary (diario di quarantena) show the importance of the present moment that was captured in the artwork, a moment that otherwise would be gone. 20.03.2020 Tempera on paper; 21 x 30 cm; 2020 [3/12]
WIN WIN – LA NUOVA VIA DELLA SETA PERSONAL PROJECT - FLORENCE - 2019 The “WIN WIN, the new silk road” project take inspiration from the economic and geographical strategy of the “Belt ad Road Initiative, New silk road”; a global strategic initiative of the Republic of China which involves the development of infrastructure and investments from Asia to Europe. In March, 2019, the Italy-China Memorandum was signed in Rome. Through this agreement, Italy’s journey along the new silk road officially began. How, and if, this connection will change our perception of the landscape and borders. With this project I try to explore the connections between people and places, between the two cultures, European and Asian, between the two borders that once seemed so far away and that today want to shorten distances. I begin with digital painted sketches, than later depicted on canvas, in a series of six artwork, trying to transport shapes that belongs to digital space on a physical canvas. In this project I consider the artwork as platform, as a place, as a “A new Silk Road”, on which both sides coexist in a “win-win” relationship.

RIFLESSIONI INTORNO AL TEMA HABITAT, OPPURE COME SPIEGARE LA MAPPA CON UN’ARANCIA PERSONAL PROJECT - FLORENCE - 2019 The project visually represents some of my thoughts on what can be understood today with habitat or the attempt to explain the map of our planet with an orange. There are three levels of habitat within the work: Organic, physical, digital. It represents the outside but at the same time is separated from it. In this page and on the next pages Riflessioni intorno al tema Habitat, oppure come spiegare la mappa con un’arancia; Mixed technique on wood in a plexiglass box (cotton, orange peel, magazine pages, glue, industrial enamel, plastic, map pins, white corrector, ink); 57 x 34 x 6,5 cm; 2019
APOPLUS - MAPPARE L’IMMAGINARIO GROUP EXHIBITION - FORTRESS OF CORFÙ - GREECE - 2019 In 2019 was selected in the collective exhibition “APOPLUS, visual art dialogues between Greek litterateurs and Calvino” which was exhibited in the old fortress of Corfu in Greece. The work presented is called “Mapping out the imaginary” (mappare l’immaginario). This artwork is a metaphor between the words written by Italo Calvino and the landscapes of Greece. Words, architectures, colors, signs, lines. Everything coexists in one place, the artwork collects them in one place. Together they make impossible and imaginary landscapes but vaguely familiar.

The italian artist Antonio Brandimarte worked on the topic of The Hudson river Twitpic with his artwork called “Mapping the miracle crash site“. In 2009, Captain Chesley ‘Sully’ Sullenberger landed a U.S. Airways plane in the Hudson River, saving the lives of all 155 passengers. Janis Krums, captured the moment and posted it to Twitter. The artwork is realized with mixed media mounted on a metal mesh. All of this resulted in stunning event held at London’s Omeara. For Antonio Brandimarte the wire mesh is the representation of the Internet and the way we observe and move in the contemporary digital space. Everything is connected and coexists in a map without borders, which allows the user to be able to make their own connections.
