Cagliari's Sardinian name “Casteddu” literally means castle. It has about 156.000 inhabitants, or about 480,000 including the outlying townships (metropolitan area). Cagliari has a Mediterranean climate, with hot, humid summers and very mild winters, often refreshed by north-westerly winds. Generally speaking, the average temperature in winter is around 10-14 C°, while in summer temperatures can reach over 35 C° during the hottest hours of the day.
THE HOSTING ORGANISATION TDM 2000 is an apolitical, independent, no-profit organisation with educational aims, which coordinates youngsters willing to cooperate in the voluntary field. It promotes personal and professional development of young people aiming to make them active citizens. TDM 2000 works to foster the cooperation among public bodies at local and international level. The activities are implemented at local and international level. Its main purpose is achieved by involving young people in practical experiences of life that allow sharing and exchanging of ideas, opinions and experiences. From 2000, TDM organizes the “International Summer Week” (ISW), a reception project oriented towards intercultural integration and exchange. In December 2004 it started a new huge project, the “International Winter Week” (IWW), previously held in: Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovenia, and Bulgaria. The aim of the meeting is to foster friendship and pull down cultural stereotypes, by promoting the culture of regions and less popular areas in the world. TDM 2000 promotes individual and group creativity organizing intercultural events such as theatrical performances, dances, fashion shows, art exhibitions, sport performances and food festivals. It organizes training courses, conferences, seminars and campaigns focusing on themes such as active citizenship, human’s rights, youth and democracy, volunteering and inclusion, through methods of non-formal education.
