                            2022

There are four Open Quiet Days in 2022 at Parcevall Hall. Breaking with the tradition
of the last few years, we’re now asking you to book in advance by email or phone. We’ve
been glad to see the popularity of these days increase, but with higher attendance
has come a lessening of the quiet and peace, and so on reflection, we are reluctantly
restricting numbers to 25.
Each of our Open Quiet Days this year has a different leader. Revd Nicholas Mercer
was ordained in 2011 after twenty-five years as a solicitor. He is now the Rector of
Bolton Priory, and will lead the January Open Quiet Day.
Lynn Parker leads our April day. She has led several retreats at Parcevall Hall for the
Fellowship of Contemplative Prayer, is a Reader for the Church of England, and also
leads Bible Study retreats for her local church.
The third will be led by Katharine Cheney. Katharine is a confirmed member of the
Methodist Church and the Church of England, and lives a spiritual unity. She is a long-
time friend of the Hall.
The final Open Quiet Day this year will be led by Revd Canon Ailsa Newby. Ailsa
served in the Diocese of Southwark before moving north, where she is now Spirituality
and Spiritual Direction Co-ordinator for the Ripon Episcopal Area.

Chiang Yee
Tutor: Will Poulter
Chiang Yee left China and came to England
in 1933. He travelled much of the country,
and was a regular guest of Sir William
Milner at Parcevall Hall. He documented
these times with writings and paintings,
observed through the lens of a different
culture and in a distinctly Chinese style.
His book The Silent Traveller in the Yorkshire
Dales is one of a series he wrote whilst
living in England in the 1930s and 40s. Join
Will Poulter as he talks about Chiang Yee’s
life, writings and paintings, and his intriguing
depictions of the Yorkshire landscape.
Since 2001, William has worked in a variety Kilnsey Crag by Chiang Yee

Join the Friends of Parcevall Hall
The Friends is a charitable organisation made up of individuals and Parishes who love the
Hall and support its work through prayer, practical help, donations and subscriptions.
The amount subscribed is entirely at the discretion of each Friend. Those who are liable for
Income Tax are invited (at no extra cost to themselves) to increase the value of their gift by
25% via Gift Aid.
By joining the Friends, you are not only helping the Hall, but also enjoying yourself at the
same time!
In recent years, the Friends have helped to fund projects such as re-upholstery of furniture,
new crockery and cutlery, the audio-visual system and new carpets.
Bursaries are available from the Friends, at the Warden’s discretion, to fund part of the
financial cost for individuals who may otherwise be unable to stay at the Hall.
All Friends receive a twice-yearly newsletter which, in addition to articles relating to the
Hall, gives information on current projects, members’ news, and details of the annual
Friends Gathering and AGM in the summer.
We have a lively programme of events to which all Friends are invited: Annual Dinner,
Friends Gathering, AGM, Eucharist with coffee and lunch, outings, Pilgrimages, visits and
Christmas Lunch.
As a thank you for their valued support, Friends have the option of staying at the Hall
on a ‘three nights for the price of two’ offer. The Warden will provide details.
Become a Friend and help us to cherish Parcevall Hall for generations to come.
