ITEA FOSTERING INTERNATIONAL SOFTWARE INNOVATION AAIC 2022, Austria Zeynep Sarılar, ITEA Chairwoman
ITEA THE EUREKA CLUSTER ON SOFTWARE INNOVATION ITEA stimulates transnational and industry-driven R&D&I in the domain of software innovation. ITEA enables a large international community to collaborate in funded projects that turn innovative ideas into new businesses, jobs, economic growth and benefits for society. ITEA is: Global and trusted cooperation in an industrial community Project financing through national public and private funding Commercialisation of research results Focus on high-quality process and support 26
ITEA KEY CHALLENGES Smart city Smart mobility Smart communities Smart industry Smart health Smart energy Safety and security Smart engineering 27
ITEA GOVERNANCE TRUSTFUL RELATIONSHIP ITEA is an association, with industry board members: Public Authorities assigning budgets to ITEA projects are: 28

ITEA BOTTOM-UP CALLS YEARLY CALL PROCESS 1. ITEA Project Outline Days event - September Consortium building / idea generation 2. Submit a Project Outline (PO) - End of Oct / Beginning of Nov Short project overview 3. Submit a Full Project Proposal (FPP) - Mid-February Description of project plan, management and execution 4. Funding & Project Start-up – From July Apply for funding at national level 30
ITEA BOTTOM-UP CALL TOPIC LANDSCAPE STRONG AI FOCUS IN ITEA Since several years, many ITEA projects apply AI technologies to solve challenges defined by (business) needs. This focus is getting stronger and stronger. 31
SUCCESSFUL ITEA PROJECT APPLYING AI REFLEXION Reflexion assisted high-tech systems companies in using operational data to improve the development lifecycles, maintenance and troubleshooting of products. Using open-source frameworks, self-learning and data-analysing systems were developed that accumulate useful knowledge during a product’s lifetime, resulting in a faster time- to-market, lower costs and greater competitiveness. Start date: September 2015 End date: February 2019 Reflexion webpages https://itea4.org/project/reflexion.html https://itea4.org/project/impact-stream/reflexion- impact-story.html 32
REFLEXION IMPACT HIGHLIGHTS All project partners have improved their data pipelines to the point of returning only useful information: the gathered information can now be used to automatically enhance future product design Océ (now Canon) has improved their mean time to repair (MTTR) for all new machines by 50%, while another partner saw a 30% reduction in time spent troubleshooting For partners Barco and TNO, new business models are expected to already be worth 20 million € in the next 5 years 25 data science jobs have been created within the Reflexion project partners Siemens Industry Software developed a potential service model based around simulated failures, which can predict future issues even in the absence of ‘real’ data Philips and Barco can now create medical equipment with a higher uptime, meaning the possibility to diagnose or operate on more patients per day SynerScope’s visual-analytical tooling enabled their customer Stedin to plan in the end with a 99,5% accuracy first-time-right smart meter installation visits, saving an effective 40 FTE in the smart meter rollout for the Netherlands 33
ITEA PO DAYS A RECIPE FOR SUCCESS! ITEA PO Days in September each year: ‐ 300+ participants, 15+ countries ‐ 50-70 ideas uploaded in the project idea tool, 50+ project ideas presented as a poster and 40+ ideas pitches Generally, more than 75% of the submitted POs are initially presented at the preceding ITEA PO Days. “The PO Days event is an opportunity to do what I call a mix between speed dating and a hackathon at the same time, to come up with an idea that we Save the Date! wouldn’t be able to come up with ourselves.” ITEA PO Days 2022 13 & 14 September, Helsinki Start your preparations 34 from May in the project
EUREKA CLUSTERS JOINT AI CALLS AISSI PROJECT - STRONG SYNERGY BETWEEN SEMICONDUCTOR AND SOFTWARE INDUSTRY Digitalisation is driving increased demand for microchips and shortening the product lifecycle and the high variety of customer specific devices leads to a growing need for high-mix low-volume (HMLV) semiconductor production. The project AISSI - Autonomous Integrated Scheduling for Semiconductor Industry - proposes to source and develop, integrate and apply novel AI-based approaches. Start date: March 2021 End date: May 2024 AISSI webpage https://itea4.org/project/aissi.html 35

Xecs - A Eureka Cluster A Eureka Cluster supporting: RD&I in the field of Electronic Components & Systems Public authorities Xecs is managed and operated by the AENEAS Industry Association, benefiting from: Private Complementary activities within the • Large enterprises, KDT Joint Undertaking • SMEs, Direct experience from Catrene, • Universities, Euripides² and Penta Clusters • RTOs Supported also by EPoSS and Transnational RD&I consortia Inside Industry Associations 40
Who is AENEAS? • AENEAS is a not-for-profit Industrial Association, with members from Large industries, Small and Medium Enterprises, Research institutes, academia, that catalyses RD&I collaborative activity in the Electronic Components & Systems value chain supporting the development of the digital economy • AENEAS membership is free of charge 41
AENEAS members are key industrial players Kurt Sievers, President and CEO of NXP Semiconductors, is AENEAS President 450+ 42
Adressing all ECS-SRIA domains Strategic directions from the AENEAS, EPoSS and Inside Industry Associations 43 Source ECS SRIA 2022
Xecs and AI Cross-sectional technology Edge computing and Embedded Artificial Intelligence Embedding data analytics and Artificial Intelligence One mainstream use for AI is to allow a better interface between the real world (physical world) and computing infrastructure (digital world) by interpreting naturally unstructured data, such as image files, audio files and physical sensor data, where analytic methods are inefficient or inexistent AI techniques also allow to leverage the increasing availability of data to enrich the electronics devices with decision-making capabilities, which can be adaptative over time thanks to machine learning approaches One key trend is to perform AI-based tasks as close as possible to the raw data source (“edge computing”), thus identifying the insight data as early as possible and bringing several benefits such as reduced latency, bandwidth, power consumption, memory footprint, and better security and data protection 44
Xecs and AI AI-SEE Project example How can we ensure that automated vehicles drive reliably even in adverse weather conditions? AI-SEE is developing an AI-supported solution to enable automated travel in varied traffic, lighting and weather conditions by increasing the environmental and situational awareness of vehicles. Its goal is to introduce reliable, secure, trustable sensors and software by implementing self- diagnosis, adaptation and robustness. 45
