The inaugural Master Class on Safety Planning and Governance in Informal Settlement Upgrading was held at Moses Mabhida Stadium between 27 and 29 June. The programme was held in partnership with the City and the Africa Forum for Urban Safety (AFUS). It was facilitated by the Municipal Institute of Learning. Robust debates that will help create a vision for a safer city emerged during fruitful round table discussions. EThekwini Deputy Mayor Fawzia Peer said the Municipality, through the Human Settlements Unit and strategic partners, has engaged with communities living in informal settlements to ensure that they receive basic service delivery. Councillor Peer said the master class supports the eight areas for mainstreaming the 2030 sustainable development agenda into South Africa’s national, provincial and local context.
