Travel to Erlangen By plane: The airport Nürnberg is located in the north of Nürnberg, about 6 km from the city centre and the main railway station Nürnberg. The distance between the airport and town of Erlangen is approximately 15 km. If you wish to go to Erlangen, you either take a direct bus from the airport to Erlangen, or you take the take the underground line U2 to the main railway station in Nürnberg. There is a train every 5 min on week days and every 20 min on sundays. A single ticket Nürnberg airport to Erlangen by bus (3 Zones) is 3,70 €, by train passing through Nürnberg (4 Zones) ii costs 5 €. From Nürnberg airport to Erlangen city center, a taxi might cost approx. 30 €. By train: The main train stations (Hauptbahnhof) in Nürnberg and Erlangen are located in the city center. IC, ICE (from Frankfurt or berlin or Munich), IR, RE and RB and S-Bahn trains stop here. The main train station (Hauptbahnhof) in Fürth is located in the city center. Only regional trains (RE and RB and S- Bahn) stop here. Tickets for local public transport: https://www.vgn.de/en/ Tickets can be bought from on the red VGN/VAG machines at the airport or the train and metro and bus stations! Tickets can also be bought directly from bus drivers only. If you have health problems or if you want to do a lot of sightseeing in your spare time, we suggest that you buy a “7-Tage Mobicard“ (7 day-travel-pass) for 2 Zones (Tarifstufe 2, approx. 25 €) for Nürnberg and Fürth, or for 4 zones (Nürnberg-Fürth-Erlangen, Tarifstufe 4, approx 40 €). This ticket entitles you to use all means of transport (underground = U-Bahn, S-bahn, busses, trams and regional trains RE and RB from Deutsche Bahn)! After 9:00, you can even take a second person with you for free (“Mitnahme“). 17
