Library.

The Library is integral to learning, discovery and engagement at The University of Queensland. We provide access
to quality scholarly information resources and quality client focused services and spaces to support teaching and
research at The University of Queensland. We partner with the UQ and wider community to provide pathways to
enrich learning and research.
The University of Queensland Library has one of the largest collections amongst Australian academic libraries and
is by far the largest in Queensland. The collection includes access to 2.4 million book titles (electronic and print)
and 148,000 journal titles (electronic and print). Our institutional repository, UQ eSpace, houses over 330,000
items authored or co-authored by UQ affiliated researchers, including more than 196,000 journal articles, 61,000
conference papers, and 19,000 theses

Cultural Support at UQ
• Support efforts are led by Professor Bronwyn Fredericks, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous Engagement), who is
  responsible for leading and strengthening Indigenous strategies and building links with the community.
• Workplace Diversity and Inclusion, including the Manager, Indigenous Employment, provides information and
  support to staff and drives strategies and initiatives to create a safe, welcoming and inclusive space for staff at
  UQ that values the strength of diversity.
• UQ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Staff Network meets multiple times a year, providing an opportunity
  for a culturally friendly catch up where you can have a yarn and discuss matters that are important to the
  Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities.
• The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (ATSIS) Unit strongly supports the celebration of Aboriginal
  and Torres Strait Islander cultures and recognises the enormous contributions that Aboriginal and Torres Strait
  Islander peoples and perspectives bring to UQ’s learning, discovery and engagement activities and supports
  students from pre-enrolment through to graduation.
• The Goorie Berrimpa Student Collective is the Indigenous student collective for Aboriginal and Torres Strait
  Islander students at UQ; the name translates into ‘meeting place’.
• The Poche Centre for Indigenous Health provides national leadership in urban Indigenous health research and
  workforce development.

Duty Statement
This position will coordinate activities across the Library to ensure Library collections and services embrace equity,
diversity and inclusion and allow the Library to meaningfully contribute to implementing and reporting on UQ’s
Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan 2019-2022.

This position will work closely with the Office of the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Indigenous Engagement) in connecting
with communities and making connections across, and outside UQ, this position will progress the aims of the UQ
Reconciliation Action Plan, UQ Strategic Plan and Library Strategic Plans and will informed by key documents,
including:

•    Report of the Review of Higher Education Access and Outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
     People.
•    Indigenous Cultural Competency in Australian Universities Best Practice Framework (Guiding Principles
     for Developing Indigenous Cultural Competency in in Australian Universities and National Best Practice
     Framework for Indigenous Cultural Competency in Australian Universities); and Guidelines for Ethical
     Research in Australian Indigenous Studies.
•    Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Library, Information and Resource Network Inc Protocols for Libraries,
     Archives and Information Services.
•    The University of Queensland Innovation Reconciliation Action Plan 2019-2022.
•    The University of Queensland Strategic Plan 2018-2021.

Duties

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

•    Identify and coordinate Library activities and projects that support implementing UQ’s RAP together with
     stakeholders across the Library and the DVC-A portfolio
•    Provide guidance and reports to the Library Executive and other stakeholders on activities related to the
     Library’s involvement in implementing RAP actions and deliverables
•    Establish and coordinate a Library / DVC-A RAP Implementation Reference Group
•    In collaboration with the Office of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous Engagement) Develop develop
     relationships and liaise with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders and communities across UQ
     and the wider communities
•    Identify and / or create guidelines for staff to use when creating services and / or developing collections
•    In collaboration with the Office of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous Engagement) assist in the roll out of
     UQ wide staff cultural competency training
•    Any other duties as reasonably directed by your Supervisor.

•   requirements of the Queensland occupational health and safety (OH&S) legislation and related OH&S

    related University sustainability responsibilities and procedures.
•   requirements of the Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000, the National Code 2007 and
    associated legislation, and related responsibilities and procedures developed by the University.

Reporting Relationship
The Reconciliation Action Plan Officer reports to the Associate Director, Data Digital Learning and Publishing.

Selection Criteria

     This is role is an identified position and the occupant must be of Aboriginal and/
    or Torres Strait Islander descent under section 25 and 105 of the Queensland Anti-
                                    Discrimination Act 1991.
• A degree with at least four (4) years subsequent relevant experience or extensive experience and management
  expertise in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander affairs or project management or related fields or an
  equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
•   Demonstrated knowledge and relevant experience to show understanding of:
     -  Indigenous societies and cultures
     -  Issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in contemporary Australian society; and
     -  Diversity of circumstances of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
• Experience in the higher education or Library sector, particularly related to diverse Aboriginal and Torres Strait
  Islander protocols and culturally appropriate collaboration.
• Ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders and groups, both within
  the University and the broader community.
• Demonstrated experience in leading or contributing to projects, including the ability to effectively deliver
  project outcomes
• Excellent written communication skills, including research and report writing skills
• Ability to work under pressure, prioritise workload, work independently and meet deadlines
• Ability to work flexibly in a changing environment
• Commitment to upholding the University’s values, and with the outstanding personal qualities of openness,
  respectfulness and integrity

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, fixed term position for 2 years at HEW level 7.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $87,022 - $94,885, plus super of up to 17% and recreation
leave loading of 17.5%
