ERTH Corporation Announces Completion of the ERTH Energy Community EV Network Two electric vehicles plug in at the Port Stanley Beach EV Charger location. Ingersoll, ON – Chris White, President & CEO of ERTH Corporation, today announced the completion of the ERTH Energy Community EV Network, a network of 24 publicly accessible level 2 electric vehicle (EV) chargers connecting ERTH’s 15 service communities that stretch from Lake Erie to Lake Huron. Using its knowledge of the local electricity grid and leveraging relationships with municipal shareholders, ERTH is deploying a network of EV chargers in locations that make sense for both EV drivers and the electricity system. The new EV chargers are located at twelve locations in eight communities will provide residents with more options to charge their vehicles where they live, work and play. To encourage increased adoption of zero-emission vehicles, Natural Resources Canada has agreed to provide $99,900 in
funding to ERTH Corporation to help it build 21 of the 24 EV chargers across southwestern Ontario. ERTH and its participating municipal shareholders are contributing the parking spots and the remaining funds required to the purchase and install the EV chargers. With the federal funding, the total cost of the project is approximately $330,000. Federal funding for 21 of the EV chargers is provided through Natural Resources Canada’s Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP), which supports the government’s ambitious target to have all new passenger vehicles sold in Canada be zero-emission by 2035. The funding provided to ERTH is intended to support charging in more localized areas, such as on street and in other areas intended for public use. The new charging locations include a mix of on-street locations (Aylmer, Goderich, Tavistock and Mitchell) and public parking lots located at arenas, tourism information centres, beaches and in downtown cores (Aylmer, Port Stanley, Goderich, Belmont, Norwich and Clinton). The infrastructure resulting from these investments will ensure that people can charge their vehicles reliably and safely in these communities. Electricity to the chargers will be provided by the local electricity distributor, ERTH Power Corporation – Your Hometown Utility. The chargers are pay-for-use and EV drivers will pay a competitive market rate to charge their vehicles, which is currently $1.50 per hour of charging.
Chris White, President & CEO of ERTH Corporation plugs in an electrical vehicle at an ERTH EV charging location. The ERTH Energy Community EV Charging Network will soon expand with the installation of a level 3 EV fast charger at the Goderich Tourist Information Centre. ERTH has also partnered with the County of Elgin and the Municipality of Central Elgin to install 20 level 2 EV chargers at their respective workplaces. These projects are expected to be completed by the fall of 2021. These investments add to ERTH’s growing mix of clean distributed energy resources throughout the communities that it serves, which include 900kW of solar generation on municipal properties. those 50 individuals or small teams, from 16 different categories, who have done the most to advance the cause of sustainability and clean capitalism in Canada over the past 2 years,” said Gavin Pitchford, CEO, Delta Management Group. “Chris White was chosen after rigourous screening and research by Delta Management, with advice from internal researchers and external advisors, and was among Honourees selected from an initial pool of approximately 900 well qualified nominees. Delta’s criteria in determining Honourees is to carefully consider actual measurable accomplishments, demonstrated innovation, collaboration with other organizations, and the power of Chris’ contribution to inspire other Canadians to take similar action.” White and ERTH were commended for work in the Traditional Energy category. Under his leadership since 2016, the electricity distributor and energy service provider has embraced community solar and energy efficiency retrofitting. One of their projects, ERTH Community Power, represents a partnership of 9 municipalities in Ontario created to develop solar facilities on municipal buildings. In the first year of operation, their 7 solar projects generated 1,000 MWh while offsetting 20 million tonnes of CO2 and is expected to generate over $4 million for local stakeholders over the life of the project. ERTH also has
a Turnkey LED Streetlight Upgrade Program, completing retrofits for over 60 municipalities and saving over 15,330 MWh/year. “The Clean50 Honourees come from such a broad array of backgrounds, such that only a few individuals are able to be recognized within any given category,” continues Pitchford. “To receive a Clean50 award is truly indicative of both industry and personal leadership in the Traditional Energy category.” The Clean50 are nominated in one of 16 categories; leaders in each of the categories are then made part of the distinguished Clean16. As the leader in the Traditional Energy category, Chris was also named to Canada’s 2021 Clean16. “The 2021 Clean16 are truly the leaders of the leaders in sustainability in Canada. The competition for the top spot this year in every instance left us with a record number of great choices – and to be selected from amongst such a strong group of peers is truly a testament to the contribution Chris White has made to helping make Canada more sustainable for all Canadians,” says Pitchford. White is honoured to receive such a prestigious individual award but recognizes that the efforts are due to a committed group of employees, board members and communities. “This acknowledgment recognizes the hard work and the commitment of the ERTH team and its stakeholders to clean energy and energy efficiency,” expressed Chris. “The Clean50 and Clean16 awards let us know that ERTH is on the right path and it inspires us to continue embracing a sustainable future.” About ERTH Corporation: ERTH Corporation is a diverse group of companies with its origins in the utility industry.
