ENJOY NATURE with WINTER ACTIVITIES & OUTINGS ICE SKATING: Clinton Square - The rink is an open-air facility and will be open through March 13th, weather permitting, please call 315-423-0129. The rink has warming room facilities. Skate rental is available for a $3 fee. All youth 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. All children under 18 not allowed after dark without paerntal supervision. Please have photo ID available. Family Night Spe- cial: Mon. - Thurs. Mud Lake Rd., Baldwinsville. Enjoy 3 separate trails - Northern Exposure (1.4 miles) & Southern Exposure (2.2 miles.); while the Southern has more hilly spots, the Northern offers a flatter trail and both go through open fields and wooded areas, & Pine Meadow Trail (0.5 miles). Snowshoe rentals are $5 per hour; rentals 9am-3:30pm, must be returned by 4pm. Trails open from 7:30am - 5pm. Nature Center admission is $5 per vehicle. Try Snowshoeing: clinic offered every Sat. & Sun. at 12:30pm in January & February. Clinic includes instruction & a short snowshoe hike. Folks with little or no snowshoe experience will especially enjoy this one-hour introduction for $5 per person. Registration is required beginning at 8am on the day of the clinic, call 315-638-2519. If there is not enough snow for snowshoeing, the nature center will hold an indoor program "Wildlife in Winter: Tracks and Signs" at 1pm. Program Fee: $5 per person, includes snowshoe rentals plus regular park admission fee. Highland Forest - 1254 Highland Forest Rd., Fabius. All levels of snowshoers are offered 6 trails of varying lengths: .5 miles to 8.7 miles. Park maps are avail- able at Skyline Lodge. There are cut-offs at each trail if you want to decrease the distance. Park maps available at Skyline Lodge which also serves food & drink on weekends and a volunteer Nordic Ski Patrol monitors the beautiful snow covered trails. Trail Use: Ski Day Pass - $10; $5 child (15 & under) Ski Sea- son Pass: $30; $20 child (15 & under). Rental Shop open daily, snow conditions permitting. Rentals available from 9am - 3pm, all equipment must be returned by 4pm. It is a beginner level trail, with only two small inclines to navigate. Trail access is from the parking lot at the West McKinley Shelter parking lot. Free admission. WILDLIFE VIEWING: Rosamond Gifford Zoo - 1 Conservation Place, Syracuse. Daily 10am - 4:30pm. Temporary Exhibit: STROLLING DOWN SALINA STREET: 1940-1980: So many Central New Yorkers have fond memories of coming to Syracuse and taking in the shops, the sights, and the sounds of Salina Street, the heart of Downtown. This exhibit re-creates Salina Street in our large first-floor gallery, using photographs and artifacts from the many shops, so that visitors to our downtown museum can "stroll" down the grand old street once again. Syracuse photographer Michael Greenlar documented four generations of Algonquins in the bush of Quebec, Canada for almost 20 years. The work focuses on the matriarch Lena Nottaway and the knowledge she passed on through her 15 children. Lena taught Kokomville how to utilize every element of the environment to become a self-sustaining community. The series is a testament to the cultural survival of the Algonquin people of Barrier Lake, La Verendrye Park, Quebec, Canada. Despite broken treaties and clear-cut logging, these First Nation people continue to use the land as their traditions dictate. Do- nations kindly accepted.
