Summary 1 Introduction 2 The « Pilot Group Project » 3 Environmental impact 4 Technological innovations 1
Quelle transition énergétique dans la navigation professionnelle et de loisir ? The Communauté Portuaire de Paris Grégoire Jourdan-Gassin – chargé de financement à la transition écologique Logo de votre entreprise Introduction : • Association representing the river Seine and the canals’ professionnals. • Approximately 130 members: from booksellers to « Bateaux Mouches », nightclubs and industrial companies. • Half of the members have a navigating activity (the other half don’t) • 30% of the activities did not exist 10 years ago • 2019 : Launch of the ecological transition project. 3
Paris and the Seine: a unique situation Of the inland French 1st Inland passengers port in the World 80% passengers transport is on the Seine 2nd Inland freight port in Europe 50% Of the inland French navigation is on the Seine 151 Boats exploited by private companies in Paris Paris : different type of uses and structures but essentially small companies (average : 3 boats per company) 4
Milestones Un contextetodécisif achieve environmental pour le fleuve exemplarity By 2030, only environmental friendly vehicles will be allowed on the road. Will boats be the only vehicles emitting smoke in the city? Low Emission Zones*: Study of the CPP about the Ban on diesel road-vehicles in the Low Emission Zones : ecological transition of Paris’ Métropole du Grand Paris Ban on the navigating fleets non-environmental friendly Olympics and Paralympics Games road vehicles 2020 2024 2030 5 * ZFE : Low Emission Zones implemented in 79 municipalities around Paris
The different types of river boats Passengers Passengers Passengers Small Boats Private Boats Restaurants A few cruises a day, with important < 12 passengers and/or < 20 meters. Boats privatized for the shipboard consumption (kitchens, air Administrative category. organization of events. conditioning, etc.) Passengers Cargo Cargo Day cruise Workboats Self propelled river cargos Boats like « Bateaux mouches ». Industrial boats Around ten sightseeing cruises a day. Freight transport (i.e. maneuvering pushers) 6
The « Pilot Group » Project 7
The concept 1 2 Navigating with 0 emission in Refit existing boats in a circular Paris, with normal navigation economy dynamic conditions 3 4 Making the transition economically neutral or cheaper than keeping the The Groupe Pilote: focus on 12 thermal engines for 10 years. boats (2 per type) 5 For the future constructions: creating the Boat of the Future. 8
Economic Neutrality • Our project aims at achieving economic neutrality in 10 years. • The total cost of the transition cannot be more expensive for the boat owner than keeping their thermal engines. thermal OPEX ≥ (CAPEX + electrical OPEX) – subsidies 9
Un contexte décisif pour le The Groupe fleuveleverage Pilote’s The Groupe Pilote’s project is replicable, and the 12 first boats will lead other the rest of the river boats and companies to initiate their ecological transition European waterways The Groupe Pilote Paris The Seine French Waterways ? 12 Boats 151 Boats 600 Boats 1500 Boats … The Seine in Paris, especially before the Olympics could be a showcase and a catalyst of the ecological transition of the mobility sector. 10

Environmental impact 12
Pilot Group: reduction of carbon emissions 354 2 717 tons tons - 2 364 tons per year - 87 % emissions • At the scale of the 12 boats, the ecological transition could strongly reduce their carbon footprint. 13
Paris’ river fleet: reduction of carbon emissions (151 boats) 2 880 28 532 tons tons - 25 652 tons per year - 89,9 % emissions • Results obtained from the extrapolation of the Pilot Group’s data for the parisian fleet categorized by the different type of river vessels presented earlier. 14
Technological innovations 15
Quelle transition énergétique dans la navigation professionnelle et de loisir ? Technological Innovations Studied Grégoire Jourdan-Gassin – chargé de financement à la transition écologique Logo de votre entreprise Recycled car batteries: • These batteries have a SoC (state of charge) around 70% of their initial caracteristics. • Could technically be implemented on 5 of the 12 boats. Approximately 5 times cheaper, but heavier and bigger volumes. Biogas: • We studied in partnership with GRDF the batteries-biogas hybridation. (Biogas generators instead of diesel ones) • The ecological impact is very strong (-98%) + circular economy. 16
