THE EXHIBITION Shoot Festival’s Exhibition is an opportunity for emerging visual artists based in any CV-postcode (this can include home, study or work). Shoot Festival is exclusively committed to work being developed in Coventry and Warwickshire and is an opportunity for participants to build connections with local and established organisations and artists. New for 2019 we are looking to offer 3 emerging visual artists or visual art groups the opportunity to showcase their work as part of our diverse programme which celebrates the best of Coventry and Warwickshire’s talent. The Exhibition will be held at Artspace’s Arcadia Gallery alongside our Performance Programme, Sound Stage, Workshops, and Industry Talks. The winning submissions will be selected by a panel of industry professionals and the Festival Directors. WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU ● A £200 fee for each artist / group selected ● £500 in mentorship/development, bespoke to the needs of the artist/group ● A two week presentation of your work as part of a group exhibition in a professional venue (Arcadia Gallery), Saturday 6th - Saturday 20th April 2019 ● Full technical support ● Photography of your art work ● The chance to show your work at Coventry and Warwickshire’s most exciting new festival in front of an audience made up of local people, industry professionals and fellow artists ● Potential opportunities post-festival through the Shoot network ● The chance to meet other emerging artists who are also making work in Coventry and Warwickshire WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR? ● Exciting and original work (we take a broad view of the visual arts) ● We create a diverse and unique programme and will accept applications from
all visual art forms ● All artists/groups must have a base in the CV postcode (this can include home, study or work) ● Artists must be aged 18+ EMERGING ARTIST? We use the term ‘emerging artist’ very broadly. Whether you consider yourself a well-seasoned professional looking for more local opportunities or this is your very first exhibition, we encourage all artists who feel they might be able to benefit from this opportunity to apply. OUR SELECTION CRITERIA Final selection will be decided by the Visual Art Industry Judges with the support of the Shoot Festival Directors. Submissions will be considered against the criteria and conditions listed below: 1. Artistic merit and quality 2. The submission must be considered the artist’s original work 3. The judges must be able to see how the opportunity will help the artist or group to progress in their career 4. The judges’ selection will seek to reflect diversity and breadth of practice 5. Artists must have a base within a CV-postcode (this can include home/study/work) CV-postcode’s include: Coventry, Stratford-Upon-Avon, Rugby, Kenilworth, Warwick, Bedworth, Nuneaton, Atherstone, Shipton-on-Stour, Southam and Leamington Spa. 6. The work must be achievable in Arcadia Gallery or City Arcade and within Shoot Festival resources 7. Special credit will go to applications that use the space in a creative way (particularly the large windows at the front of the gallery) though this is not essential 8. The work can take any form including: painting, ceramics, textile art, digital art, moving image, sculpture, performance art, sound art, street art, illustration, installation, or anything in between) 9. Artists must be 18+ 10. Artists must conform with statutory and local authority rules concerning health and safety, obscenity and defamation (before the event you will be asked to fulfil a risk assessment form) You must be available to: - Attend a pre-festival meeting during the lead up to the festival (exact date TBC) - Support the installation of your work between Tuesday 2nd - Thursday 4th April 2019 - Support the opening of the exhibition on Saturday 6th April - Support at least 2 shifts of invigilation (3hrs x 2) during the rest of the exhibition Monday 8th - Saturday 20th April 2019)
Any further questions please contact: shootfestival@gmail.com THE VENUE: ARCADIA GALLERY The Exhibition will be held at Artspace’s Arcadia Gallery, City Arcade, Coventry. The gallery is a converted shop. TECHNICAL SET UP We will have two gallery technicians on hand to support your installation between Tuesday 2nd April - Thursday 4th April. We have some equipment available (eg projectors/speakers) and will discuss equipment needs in more detail with the winning artists to support where we can.
HOW TO APPLY Deadline for applications is Friday 8 February 3pm and we aim to inform selected artists by Monday 18 February. Please send your completed application form, Equal Opportunities and Monitoring form and up to 7 images of your work or online links to your work via email to shootfestival@gmail.com with the subject line ‘Application: Exhibition 2019’.
