Perishable Goods Air Transport ≥ Preferred mode of transport due to: ≥ Speed ≥ Networks ≥ Challenges: ≥ Changing Climatic Zones ≥ Multiple Handling ≥ Airport Facilities ≥ Customs & Security
Perishable Goods Air Transport ≥ IATA PCR ≥ dedicated to facilitation of perishables transportation by air ≥ Emirates Perishable Transportation Policy ≥ Dedicated to High Quality & Standard of Service
Emirates Perishable Transportation Policy ≥ EK-01 The following information must be reflected on all Air Waybills for Perishable cargo: ≥ the storage temperature requirement in the form of range of temperatures (in Celsius) acceptable for each type of perishable produce transported under the Air Waybill; the wording for reflecting the temperature requirement in the Handling Information column of all PER/PIL Air Waybills must be as follows: “Keep between X and Y degrees Celsius whenever possible during transportation and storage” where X and Y are respectively the minimum and the maximum recommended temperatures. ≥ the exact names of the perishable produce: e.g. mangos, strawberries, pharmaceuticals, vaccines, lettuce, roses, chocolate etc. ≥ 24 hrs emergency contact number ≥ all packages must be clearly marked with their contents and the correct storage temperature requirement range (in Celsius). Any contradicting, irrelevant labels, markings reflecting wrong contents or temperature requirement, must be obliterated.
Emirates Perishable Transportation Policy ≥ EK-02 Aircraft are not equipped with refrigerator or freezer facilities. Temperature control facility is available but is limited due to various uncontrollable factors (ground temperatures at departure/arrival, flight duration, effects of other loads etc.). Also, Emirates cannot guarantee ground facilities will be available or operational at all times. It’s recommended that Perishables offered for carriage are pre-cooled and adequately packed to withstand normal handling and protect from damage due to changes in climate, temperature, altitude or any natural/ordinary exposure which may prevail in flight or on ground, or when available facilities cannot protect shipment from such conditions.
Emirates’ Commitment To The Highest Service Levels ≥ emphasis on CoolChain in view of the warm climate: ≥ carefully designed Processes & Procedures ≥ high set Standards ≥ custom made Products, Special Services & Solutions
Emirates’ Commitment To The Highest Service Levels Products Solutions ≥ Integrated ≥ Priority Airport to Door Door to Airport Door to Door ≥ General Freight ≥ Protect ≥ Courier ≥ Cool Chain ≥ P.O.Mail ≥ Animal Care Pet Movement Horse Movement ≥ Customised Solutions Charters Customer Partnership
Cool Chain solutions for perishable and temperature sensitive products Temperature Controlled Containers: Temperature-controlled air cargo containers maintain a stable interior temperature throughout the journey of the shipment. White Cover: Cost effective, reusable protective cover designed to shield temperature-sensitive cargo from solar heat during transportation. Cool Dollies: These purpose built units preserve the integrity of highly-sensitive commodities during their transit and transfer from Ramp to PER Warehouse
Emirates’ Commitment To The Highest Service Levels ≥ 70% of the entire cargo operations at the airport is Emirates SkyCargo’s ≥ self-handling at the HUB allows dedicated service to our Customers ≥ in-house Customs and Municipality inspection labs speed up acceptance and delivery processes
Cargo Mega Terminal • The Cargo Mega Terminal has fully-automated workstations with increased ground-handling capacity • One of the most technologically advanced cargo terminals in the world
Cargo Mega Terminal Over 1.2 million tonnes annual throughput 43,600 square metre handling area (with 35,000 square metre footprint) ≥ Out of 46 truck docks for acceptance and delivery of loose cargo, 9 dedicated to Temperature Sensitive cargo ≥ Dedicated Temperature Controlled Storage with 3 independently controlled temperature zones: ≥ Total Capacity: 175,000 tonnes (annual) ≥ Perishable 1: +2 oC to +8 oC, area: 2500 m2 ≥ Perishable 2: +10 oC to + 15 oC, area: 2500 m2 ≥ Freezer: -18 oC, area: 400 m2 ≥ 218 locations for intact ULD cool storage, can be set anywhere between: +4 oC to + 18 oC
Emirates’ Commitment To The Highest Service Levels ≥ dedicated Perishable Handling teams and equipment on ramp and in cargo terminal ≥ priority Ramp Handling ≥ priority Terminal Handling ≥ tailor-made Transit Handling: ≥ QRT handling and prioritisation ≥ temperature controlled warehouse storage (for connections more than 3 hrs) ≥ supervised Cool Station on the Ramp (for connections less than 3 hrs) ≥ specialised equipment: ≥ CoolDollies between aircraft and to/ from Ramp
Emirates’ Commitment To The Highest Service Levels ≥ standardisation of services globally: ≥ constant process and facility re-evaluation of contracted Ground Handling Agents ≥ regular revisions of SLAs ≥ performance reporting and monitoring
Customer’s Contribution towards CoolChain Success ≥ AWB preparation (EK-01) ≥ declaration during reservation of the exact nature and the temperature sensitivity (EK-01) ≥ reservation info=AWB info (EK-01) ≥ SHC – the importance for handling ≥ physical shipment preparation (EK-02): ≥ pre-cooling ≥ packing ≥ temperature labelling/marking ≥ for intact units – build up in temperature controlled areas ≥ avoid co-loading incompatible goods ≥ covered and temperature controlled vehicles for ground transportation ≥ destination delivery pre-arrangements
Customer’s Contribution towards CoolChain Success ≥ Packing: ≥ “passive” vs “standard” ≥ “active” packaging for the most sensitive goods
Co-operation ≥ Emirates encourages and welcomes tri- partite co-operation formats, to ensure end-to-end seamless handling, advance preparation and preparedness of all involved stakeholders as well as establishment of effective communication lines, to result in the most effective CoolChain management
