Mike Freyne MHM email: stbernadette@dunkelddiocese.org.uk Baingle Brae, Tullibody. FK10 2SG Tel: 01259 213274 At all masses there will be ushers, please follow their instructions at all times. At no time will we exceed the permitted number of people allowed in the church even if this means turning people away. People’s health and safety comes first and we have an enormous social responsibility. You must sanitise your hands as you enter and leave the church and must wear a face mask. Please follow the one way system. You will be asked to leave your name and contact number in case you need to be traced. (It may make things quicker if you brought this on a piece of paper as everyone has to sanitise their hands and be ushered to a seat ) Please come early for mass! DO NOT BE LATE Masses will be shorter to reduce the possibility of cross infection; In principle there will be only one reading, NO Responsorial Psalm, a Gospel and when possible a very short sermon. Prayers of the Faithful will be reduced. The Easter liturgies will be very simplified trying to keep them to under 30 minutes when possible. Remember, there is currently no Sunday Mass obligation. EASTER Message 2021 Last Easter many of us probably thought....... “Never again. An Easter like this can never be repeated! ” Coronavirus continues to have a devastating impact on us and the world. Many have died, suffered viral infections, hospitals working to their full capacity. The economic system has been dealt a tremendous blow. Laws and restrictions controlling our social behaviour, the way we live, learn and pray are part of our daily lives. Many people are frustrated, fearful, anxious, stressed, lonely and worse than angry, may have suicidal thoughts. We may have even thought “ where is God”? We probably have changed or at least are aware our lives and the world are going to be different. Probably our faith has been challenged and we have struggled to put all our trust in God. We ask ourselves what really matters? At the same time we have become more sensitive to the needs, frustrations and fears of migrants, refugees, the elderly and sick. We have a new yearning not to just look after me, but we want governments to guarantee healthcare and social welfare to all especially the marginalised and vulnerable. We are even more aware of global suffering. We are all in this together. It has become so apparent we need other people and they need us too. Jesus did not stay in the tomb. All hope would have been lost. Death does not have the final word. Just as the virus knows no borders the faith and hope we have in the Risen Jesus calls us to a new way of living, a different future. We are called to embrace the challenge to love, to be a light in the present darkness that still surrounds us. The women friends of Jesus and the apostles thought it was all over. They locked them- selves up in a kind of quarantine. The only thing to do was to go home or shut themselves up hidden away safely from others. But then the news Jesus was alive explodes in their lives. Imagine how our world would be if they had not shared that incredible news? We Chris- tians, Easter people, have a tremendous responsibility during this time of darkness to share our love and be a light offering hope. Jesus is alive! No longer is He in the darkness of the tomb. May Jesus’ light THROUGH US reach out to all especially the most vulnerable and margin- alised. Give us the courage that although we may not embrace each other we will find ways to be the big hug of God to others. From a distance: a happy, joyful and hopeful Easter to all! Fr. Mike

For Easter for those who join mass via YouTube at the 11.30am mass on Easter Sunday, if they desire, may immediately after mass go to St. Bernadette’s. Up to 1.45pm Fr. Mike will be in the church. People can enter, sanitise their hands, say a short prayer and come up for Holy Communion and then leave immediately via the lateral door. To avoid asking many people to stay behind and sanitise the church we ask you not to stay in the church but move in an anti-clockwise direction. There should probably be no more than 10 people at anyone time in the church. Fr. Mike’s Health When Fr. Mike did his radio therapy treatment a year ago he was warned one of the side affects would be damage to his teeth. Hopefully he will have managed to cope and get through Holy Week on medication but from Monday to Friday he expects to be doing treatment which may, or may not, effect his availability and if he can say mass. Since Eucharistic ministers are not allowed yet to distribute Holy Communion if Fr. Mike is unable to celebrate then mass would need to be cancelled at the last moment. We are sure people will understand and collaborate. Hopefully everything will go according to plan and there will be no disruption.
Easter Sunday - 4th April “ If you want to honour the body of Christ, do not scorn it when it is naked; do not honour the Eucharistic Christ with silk vestments, and then, leaving the church, neglect the other Christ suffering from cold and nakedness.” - ( Saint John Chrysostom ) More at: ANOINTING OF THE SICK: There are restrictions on what the priest can do (he is not tied down to everything as he is regarded as a front line worker by the government). To go to a sick person involves a lot of “before” and “after” preparation. He is not al- lowed to touch the sick person but anoints with a cotton bud with fresh oil blessed individually each time and dis- posed of separately. He has to use apron, mask and gloves. Afterwards he has to sanitise the pyx (the box that car- ries the host), any booklets he used and also his car when he returns. He must also change his clothes and wash them or not use for many days. However, please note someone in serious danger of dying he would try to attend but please try to give as much warning as possible because of all the preparation involved. Face Masks for Charity. As at Christmas, hand made face masks will SCIAF be on sale following the Easter Vigil/Sunday Services. All proceeds this time will be going to SCIAF. For information on the ongoing work of Fr.
