Personal Social and Emotional Development As discussed last week, we are going to be focusing on ‘Chil- dren’s Mental Health’ during our learning time this week. Not just as a ‘one off’ but making lasting changes that we will continue to practice on a daily basis. To start this week’s learning we are going to be taking part in a virtual assembly provided by ‘Oak National Academy’. Charlie Mackesy is a British artist and the author of The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse. The book has sold over 1.4 million copies and spent 55 weeks on the Sunday Times Bestsellers List top ten. We would love to spread ‘positive vibes’ and show that we are thinking about happy times and about better days are coming. Therefore, please can you use the attached activity to create a rainbow within the picture. You can use colouring pencils, paint, watercolours or any colourful media you have at home. It would be fantas- tic to see so many so we can create a wonderful display in school.
Literacy Activity: This week our focus text is ‘Aliens Love Underpants’. This week we are going to be exploring the different characters of the story, creating our own characters and even making our own underpants for the cheeky aliens. In this week’s pack you will see we have a writing activity with lot of different sounds we have been learning during our focused ‘Phonics Time’. Using the at- tached sheet please could you spend time with your child making up silly names for their aliens? The idea behind this activity is to see if your child can identify learned sounds within words and ‘FRED TALK’ to under- stand what they have read. Reading Activity: Once your child has completed the above activity, why not encourage them to apply their new learning by writing silly names for people in your house? Can they use the letters in your names to create ‘Alien names’ for people they know?
Maths Activities: This week, as part of our White Rose Maths, focus we are going to be explor- ing ‘Addition’ and combining groups of objects together. As discussed on the video message last week, we will be encouraging the chil- dren to step away from technology and using practical resources to stimulate their physical and mental development. Please see attached activity sheets for Maths, however if you want to be a little more creative with our activities, why not try the following: • Using clean socks and creating pairs with pegs – you could even extend this to counting in 2s. • Finding objects around the house that are the same (See picture be- low). Pairs Activity: In keeping with our ‘Aliens Love Under- pants’ theme, why not cut out the at- tached pictures and create a pairs game with your child? Turn all of the cards over and take turns to turn them over and match them. This is brilliant for the development of ‘Social and Emotional’ skills and supports your child to understand the importance of taking turns whilst playing games.
Expressive Arts & Design Activities: You may have seen from our school Twitter page. Our keyworker children made these wonderful aliens using junk modelling pieces, pipe cleaners and googly eyes. If you have the resources at home why not make your own alien. You can then use your ‘Alien Name Writing’ activity as stimulus to make a new friend. It would be great to see videos and pic- tures of you making your new friend. You can also recreate this activity using playdough. Please do not go out of the house and buy specific craft equip- ment to do this. If you have playdough you can make the following:

#MathsEveryoneCan Go on a walk to collect some natural objects. Explore making pairs with what you have found. How many pairs have you found? Do you have any objects left over or do they all group into pairs?
