Eagle Wrap December 2020 No. 36 This month … • From the President • Up-coming tournaments • Bowls Report • ICYMI (In case you missed it …) • From the Treasurer • Lockleys Classifieds … Buy Hold • Night Owls Sell Donate From the President (by Sam Katsivas) Bowling Centre of Excellence Unfortunately, I have nothing further to report, as the meeting which was scheduled for 3rd December has been pushed back to the end of January by the West Torrens Council. I will keep you informed of any progress. Grand Classic The Lockleys Grand Classic scheduled for Sunday Jan 3 2021, is fast approaching. We need as many teams as possible to enter our premier event, in order to make it viable. Ashley has suggested, and I certainly agree, that one way of bolstering numbers is for as many Lockleys players to participate as possible. Even better, would be if Lockleys players invite other players they know from other clubs, to join them and form a rink to participate on the day. Rinks with one or two Lockleys players with the remainder of players coming from other clubs is a certain way to ensure a good turnout. Please think about supporting the club by getting a few players together and entering your team on the nomination sheet in the clubrooms. Bowls Report (from Ashley Halls) Club Championship games The club is looking to hold the championship finals day for the singles and the pairs on Sunday 31 January. This will give the respective winners the opportunity to nominate for the Bowls SA champion of champions. Page 1 of 9
From the Treasurer (by Treasurer Tony Holder) The club recently received just over $100 from Drakes Supermarkets through its Drakes Community Dollars support program. Thank you to the members and supporters who participate in the program. This “easy” money is a great benefit to the club. More details about the Community Dollar program in the ICYMI section of this newsletter. The Club has been advised that it will receive a grant of nearly $3000 from the Office of Recreation & Sport for "club rebooting". Our local MP Matt Cowdrey is keen to hand-over the funds at a suitable function in the near future. Some club championship event fees are still outstanding. Entry cost is $7 per event to a maximum of $20. Night Owls Every Tuesday and Wednesday night during the pennant season, Night Owls bowling runs at our club. This season, there are 18 teams (of 4) registered on each night. Games commence at around 7.15pm and players play until around 9pm. It’s a fun, social activity where bowls are provided by the club for those who don’t have their own, and people mix and mingle in a semi- competitive format. Games are scored and results matter; there is a premiership table and bragging rights are the order of the day. Afterwards, there is a light supper and some teams stay around for a few drinks with full bar service. It’s a top way to spend a Tuesday or Wednesday night. Night Owls has been paused over the holiday season and will resume on the 12th and 13th January. The premiership tables after the first half of the season are as follows: Page 2 of 9

And finally …did you hear the one about ..? When the usher noticed a man stretched across three seats in the theatre, he walked over and whispered, "Sorry, sir, but you are allowed only one seat." The man moaned but didn't budge. "Sir, if you don't move, I'll have to call the manager", said the usher more loudly. The man moaned again, but stayed where he was. The usher left and returned with the manager, who, after several attempts at dislodging the fellow, called the police. The cop looked at the reclining man and said, "All right, what's your name, pal?" "Joe", the man mumbled. "And where are you from, Joe?" "The balcony." Page 8 of 9
