Overview of New Hampshire Statewide Assessments Each year, New Hampshire public schools are required by state law (RSA 193-C) and federal accountability laws to assess all students. The following are the required assessments: General Assessment • NH Statewide Assessment System (NH SAS) • SAT School Day Alternate Assessment • Dynamic Learning Maps® (DLM®) 2
What is Dynamic Learning Maps? • NH offers the DLM as our alternate assessment for students with the most significant cognitive disabilities • The alternate assessment is used for accountability in place of the general statewide assessments (NH SAS and the SAT) • Students are tested in English language arts, mathematics and science • Computer-based and adaptive 3
DLM Alternate Assessment Students with the most significant cognitive disabilities participate in the DLM alternate assessment, as designed in their active individualized education program (IEP). Alternate Assessment Grades Content Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM) 3rd-8th and 11th English Language Arts, Mathematics DLM 5th, 8th and 11th Science Spring 2021 DLM Testing Window: March 8, 2021 – June 11, 2021 4
New Hampshire Participation Guidelines for the Statewide Assessments • The student’s IEP team makes the determination on whether student will participate in the general statewide assessment with or without accommodations, or in the alternate assessment. • Decision Making Worksheet for Participation of Students with Disabilities in Statewide Assessments: https://www.education.nh.gov/sites/g/files/ehbemt326/files/files/inl ine-documents/decisionmakingworksheetassessment.pdf 5
DLM Essential Elements • DLM content standards are called Essential Elements and are the learning targets for the assessments • Students who take the DLM alternate assessments are instructed and assessed on Essential Elements • Each content area and grade level assessment is designed to assess a specific set of Essential Elements • Testing blueprint documents (ELA, Mathematics, Science) are available that include Essential Elements for each grade level and content • DLM assessments are guided by the blueprints 6
Linkage Levels • Help measure each student’s academic achievement • Used for assessing Essential Elements ELA and Mathematics Science Five linkage levels: Three linkage levels: – Initial Precursor – Least complex; ̶ Initial – Least complex foundational ̶ Precursor – More complex – Distal Precursor – Knowledge and ̶ Target - Most complex skills needed to reach the target – Proximal Precursor – Provides access to the target – Target – Aligns with the knowledge, skills and understandings described by the Essential Element – Successor – Progresses beyond the target 7
DLM Testlets • DLM assessments are delivered as Grade ELA Testlets Mathematics Science testlets one at a time. Testlets Testlets • ELA: 9 testlets regardless of grade, one is the writing testlet 3 9 8 N/A • Math: 6-8 testlets depending on 4 9 8 N/A grade • Science: 9 testlets regardless of 5 9 8 9 grade 6 9 7 N/A • Total of 16-26 testlets per student; takes about 5-20 minutes to 7 9 7 N/A complete a testlet • Testlet types include multiple choice 8 9 8 9 (most common), sorting, matching 11 9 6 9 and select text 8
Testlet Types • Computer-Delivered Testlets delivered directly to students via computer Students can interact independently using special devices (i.e., alternate keyboards, touch screens, switches), as necessary Test administrator may navigate the screen for the student and enter student responses, if needed • Teacher-Administered Test administrator plays a more direct role than in computer- delivered testlets Test administrator sets up, delivers and enters student responses Testlets at the lowest linkage levels Students may take as many breaks as needed (up to 90 minutes) during or between testlets 9
Testlet Information Pages (TIPs) Test Information Pages (TIPs) help educators prepare for administering each testlet: • TIPs are found in Kite Educator Portal under Test Management tab • Provide materials needed for administration of the testlet (recommended materials, example of substitutions) • Test administrators may substitute materials where appropriate that are used during instruction and student is familiar with. • Description of allowable supports Resource: https://dynamiclearningmaps.org/sites/default/files/documents/ERP/About_TIPs.pdf 10

Kite Student Portal (continued) Prepare for the assessment by using practice activities and released testlets Practice Activities allow educators and students to become familiar with how testlets appear prior to testing Released Testlets are similar to the “live” DLM testlets, publicly available as a sample Demo student accounts are located in the Guide for Practice Activities and Released Testlets – ELA, Mathematics and Science 37
Kite Educator Portal • Staff and educators have accounts in Kite Educator Portal • Educator Portal is where staff and educators manage student, user and test administrator information • Access via Internet: https://educator.kiteaai.org/ • Do not share your password Note: All users will have to reset password when first signing into Educator Portal 38
39
Annual Security Agreement Annually, Kite Educator Portal users read, agree to, sign electronically and save Security Agreement • DLM assessments are secure tests • Assessments are not to be saved, shared or reproduced • Educators are encouraged to use resources provided, including practice activities and released testlets • Do not share Kite Educator password with anyone.
