DRAFT Service Plan 2017/18 Political and organisational priority work areas and work focus for 2017/2018 A key priority for DITSU in 2017/2018 is to increase student engagement, student participation and student awareness of how democracy works – at all levels of the organisation, considering always the potential developments arising from Institutional mergers and re-designation as a Technological University. Building on the cornerstones of the Student Charter, the Students’ Union Constitution and the policies of Student Council, together with the vision of the political leadership, we will move to meet the challenges of a new environment, consolidate the best of what we already do and develop new and innovative ways and approaches to our work. We will place a renewed focus on the visibility of the organisation and how we are perceived and presented externally. This means making everything that DITSU does as an organisation more visible, and finding new ways to create a more wide- spread recognition of our achievements and the quality of our work. We will continue to ensure that the Students’ Union voice is clearly heard at all levels and that we build on the successes of our predecessors, whilst also building the future of DITSU in a changing environment. In this work, we will be assisted by the support, excellence and expertise of our professional staff in DITSU CLG, We will also continue to develop the policies of the Students’ Union through its democratically elected Student Council, thereby ensuring that we represent the views of all students in the DIT and reinforce the values of an independent Students’ Union “Run by Students, For Students and Accountable to Students” We will continue to reject any DIT interference in our internal affairs. We will seek to ensure that these values are an intrinsic part of the student experience at all levels of student activity, whilst ensuring that the interests of students are fully enhanced at all levels of the DIT, and externally
