Offer Letters I n the Spring you will get your child’s Middle School offer letter. ● You can access this letter in your MySchools Account; you can also opt to receive this letter by mail. ● This letter will tell you where your child has been accepted to attend Middle School and next steps. Accept your child's offer by the deadline provided in the offer letter. ● This secures your child's 6th grade seat at that school. ● You can accept the offer online through MySchools or by contacting the school directly. ● We encourage you to accept your child's offer as soon as possible to secure their seat. Once you have accepted the offer the next step is to register your child in the school. ● Contact the school to ask about next steps and set up a time to register. ● Use the registration checklist to learn what documents should be provided to the school at the time of registration. Community School District 24
Accepting an Offer ● Your child’s middle school offer letter will include an offer to a DOE public middle school for fall 2023. It will also include information about waitlists and next steps. ● You must accept your program offer by the deadline or the seat will be given to another student ● You w ill be a ble to u s e you r MySch ools a ccou n t to: ○ Add you r ch ild to a ddition a l w a itlis ts ○ Ch eck you r ch ild’s pla ce on a n y s ch ool’s w a itlis t, in rea l tim e ○ Accept or declin e w a itlis t offers Community School District 24
Waitlist - schools.nyc.gov/waitlists ● A middle school program’s waitlist is a list of applicants who applied to that program but did not receive an offer to attend it. ● If a seat becomes available at a program after offers go out, the school can make an offer to the first student on that program’s waitlist: ○ Your child is automatically on the waitlist for any program that you listed higher on your child’s application than the program where they got an offer. ■ For example, if your child got an offer to attend the program you listed third on their application, they will automatically be added to the waitlist for your first - and second - choice programs. ○ When waitlists open (after offers go out), you have the option to add your child to additional programs’ waitlists. ○ Waitlist offers are made based on seat availability, admissions priorities, and admissions methods according to your seat group. ○ If a school can make you a waitlist offer, they will contact you directly, and you would have approximately one week to accept or decline that offer. Community School District 24
Automatic Waitlist Example ● Maria received an offer to her 4th program ● She will be automatically waitlisted for the first 3 programs she listed on her application ● Your waitlist order might change ● You must accept your program by the offer deadline ● Ma ria ca n view h er w a itlis t n u m ber for ea ch progra m by vis itin g h ttps :/ / m ys ch ools .n yc Community School District 24
