Hatfield The car park is not free and has space for 500 cars. The car park is payable by card or via your smart phone. Approximately 200 BUS SERVICES: competitors will be taking part in the event. #300 #405 #601 TRANSPORT RECCOMENDATION: We advise you travel by car since it will be a very long day out, even for the fastest athletes of the day and we can’t image becoming a Centurion, then immediately lugging all of your kit onto public transport. If you don’t drive, see if somebody will drive you, or find somebody who is also racing who you can car-pool with.
REGISTRATION REGISTER ON THE DAY AT RACE HQ - STANBOROUGH LAKES Registration will be at the race headquarters next to the transition area. Registration is open from 05:30 am to 06:45 am only. If you are BTF registered you must produce your valid BTF licence on race day, otherwise you will be required to pay the £5 for a BTF day licence. You are able to pay by card or cash. CHECKLIST: 1. Race Number (With baggage label) 8. “Dry” drawstring bag 9. “Wet” Drawstring bag WHAT TO DO: 1. Attach your timing chip to your left ankle 2. Attach your bike sticker to your bike and your helmet sticker to the front of your helmet so they won’t come off. 3. Attach your wet and dry stickers to each of your wet and dry bags 4. Ensure you have your Centurion swim cap ready for the start of the race 5. Apply your temporary tattoos. Marshals will be on hand to help you with this at registration. 6. Tear the baggage label from your race number and attach it to anything you’d like to store in the baggage area. 7. Attach one number to a race belt, or one number to the back of your cycle jersey and the front of your run top. 8. Fill your “Dry” bag with anything you need for the bike and run. 9. Keep your “Wet bag” for anything you want to discard after the swim and bike, eg: wetsuit, goggles, swim cap, cycle top. The wet and dry bags are only suggestions. It is up to you how you would like to utilise them in transition. Another popular method is using one for the bike and one for the run. Just remember which is which!
TRANSITION: For those of you who are competing in your first long distance triathlon, you will notice some key changes in the transition area than in sprint and standard races. Listen up! Baggage Tent Changing Areas Male / Female As per British Triathlon Rules, there is no nudity in Changing transition. RACE RULES KEY POINTS: Swim hats are compulsory and will be provided Wetsuits are mandatory below a water temperature of 14 degrees Celsius and prohibited above 22 degrees Celcius. Drafting is strictly prohibited on the bike (BTF Drafting Explanation) You must abide by the Highway Code at all times on the bike. ! Headphones are strictly prohibited during all legs of the race. This is an individual effort. Outside assistance is strictly prohibited! FOOT-DOWN POINT There is one foot-down point on the course. Explanation: “If the competitor does not bring both wheels to a complete stop and put one foot on the floor then they will be disqualified. There are no exceptions, even if there is no traffic approaching." To find out more about the foot-down point, please see the “BIKE” a section of this document. All rules will be enforced by British Triathlon Officials. British Triathlon Federation (GB) 2019 Complete Race Rules Failure to comply with race rules will result in disqualification and no finish time.
RACE BRIEFING 6:45AM SHARP After the transition area closes, everybody will gather outside the gates to the swim entrance and the race briefing will commence. Points covered in the briefing will be: - The swim, bike and run course and any hazards which may have cropped up on the day, including the foot-down point - Cut-off times (if you are not going to make a cut-off on the bike, you will be asked to drop down to the Metric distance) - Race rules S - The feed stations W I M SWIM COURSE Start buoy DEEP WATER RACE START AT 7AM SHARP Everybody will line up in line with the first start buoy. Swimmers who are less confident, please keep to the right and to the back of the start line buoy, as this will be slightly off the racing line. Those who are most confident, please keep to the left and to the front for a clean start. Both the Metric and Imperial distance will start together. All swimmers will complete two clockwise laps of Stanborough Lake. Upon completing your second lap, exit the water in the same location you came in, by the blue ATW Swim flag. The cut-off time for the swim course is 8:30am (90 minutes), which is equivalent to 4:30/100m WETSUITS We do not know whether wetsuits will be forbidden, optional or compulsory, since this is determined by the water temperature which must be taken 1 hour before the race. After exiting the swim, marshals and signage will signify the wetsuit off area. The area will be fenced off with temporary green mesh fencing. Please completely remove your wetsuit here and carry it to transition, storing it in your WET drawstring bag. Do not store your wetsuit by your bike or you will be issued a time penalty.
Feed Station BIKE COURSE YOU MUST BEGIN YOUR BIKE LEG BEFORE 8:30AM The Metric bike course is 82Km Metric x2 The Imperial bike course is 83 ¾ miles Imperial x4 You must have a helmet on whenever you are touching your bike, from the moment you un-rack, until you re-rack. The bike course starts at the mount line and finishes at the dismount line. You must mount after crossing the line and dismount before crossing the line. The course is marshalled and signed, so simply follow the instructions out on the road and you will be able to safely navigate the course. After completing the course, dismount before the dismount line, run with your bike to transition, rack your bike and only then remove your helmet. BIKE FEED STATION EVERY CYCLIST MUST TRAVEL THROUGH THE FEED STATION ON EACH LAP . You will be notified with a “FEED STATION AHEAD” sign about 200m before the station. This is your cue to remove your empty bottles TOILET from your cages. We advise you take old water bottles to the race which you don’t mind bottle drop never seeing again. The bottle drop is where you can throw your empties and shortly after, marshals will be handing out 750ml High 5 bottles. The first set of bottles will contain “Just Water” and the second set will contain “High 5 Energy Drink”.
