94912 PF_Winter 2020_r1.qxp_94912 PF_Winter 2020_r1 11/21/19 12:44 PM Page 3 FROM THE VILLAGE MAYOR The transition from summer to fall is always a special time in Park Forest and brings back many VILLAGE OFFICIALS childhood memories for my family and I. It’s a time when the scenery begins to change a bit, when the Mayor Johnathan M. Vanderbilt bolder shades of green give way to increasing number of golds and oranges, and when the always Term expires 2023 picturesque landscapes in Park Forest’s parks show evidence that a change in season is upon us. It is also (708)475-3097 a time when the Village of Park Forest and many community groups put on special programming that jvanderbilt@vopf.com showcase so well the very best of the character and the culture that make up our great village. In August, the Park Forest Youth Commission held its 20th Annual Youth Day Celebration. The Youth Trustee Tiffani Graham Commission continues to provide young people with quality programming and opportunities to enjoy Term expires 2019 their youth while furthering the development of their characters. (708)275-4009 tgraham@vopf.com In September, the Tall Grass Arts Association held the 64th Annual Park Forest Art Fair. Artists and arts enthusiasts from all over the country once again made the trek to Park Forest to take part in a world- Trustee Maya Hardy class art fair; the oldest of its kind in the region. Term expires 2023 In October, the Park Forest Kiwanis Club put on its 68th Annual Pancake Day. The importance Park (708)814-0111 Forest residents place on community, getting involved, and supporting one another continues to be mhardy@vopf.com evident with another highly attended bee free Pancake Day. The Park Forest Fire Department, also in October, put on their longtime Fallen Firefighters Parade. Trustee Candyce Herron The silent and solemn scene of fire trucks passing through the community provide an opportunity to Term expires 2023 reflect on the service and sacrifice those in the fire service take on each day to ensure our safety. We (708)527-9988 cherron@vopf.com thank them for that selfless service to our community. Lastly we take time out this season to formally thank those who have served our community. Trustee Theresa Settles November’s Veterans Day holiday does not allow us nearly enough opportunity to adequately thank our Term expires 2021 veterans. But the outstanding Veterans Day programming, coordinated by the Park Forest Veterans (708)748-8664 Commission, does as an excellent job of illustrating and conveying as best we can our community’s tsettle2@msn.com message of appreciation for our veterans. So many of these longtime Park Forest events bring back such great memories of my upbringing in Trustee Joseph A. Woods this village. It is my hope that these great traditions continue for many more years, made possible by a Term expires 2023 continued tradition of community support. (312)428-0778 jwoods@vopf.com As the colors change even more over the coming months, with the reds and oranges giving way an occasional covering of white, the quality programming and activities don’t go on hiatus. From Grammy- Village Clerk Sheila McGann award-winning acts performing at Park Forest’s very own Freedom Hall, to festive Holiday Tree Term appointed Lighting activities at Dining on the Green, there’s no shortage of quality programs on the horizon in (708)283-5605 Park Forest. smcgann@vopf.com I encourage you and your family to join mine, and many others to take full advantage. Together we are making Park Forest a better place for our families to live, our kids to grow and a better place for new Village Manager, Thomas Mick residents and business to discover!
