Deloitte IFRS Masterclass 2020 Global virtual series Profiles of Deloitte IFRS specialists Cynthia Corby Audit & Assurance Partner, Deloitte Middle East Dubai, United Arab Emirates Cynthia Corby serves as the Audit & Assurance Chief Operating Officer of Deloitte Middle East. Abbas Ali Mirza Audit & Assurance Partner, IFRS Leader, Deloitte Middle East Dubai, United Arab Emirates Abbas Ali Mirza is an Audit & Assurance partner at Deloitte Middle East and is a member of Deloitte Middle East IFRS Leadership Team. He is featured on Deloitte’s global website www.iasplus.com under the section devoted to “Spotlight on Deloitte’s IFRS Specialists”. He is an author of 15 books on “IFRS” including: “Wiley: IFRS Practical Implementation Guide & Workbook” (in its 3rd edition) and “Wiley: IFRS Interpretation & Application” and recently published “Wiley: International Trends in Financial Reporting under IFRS”. As Assurance Leader, Georges leads a team of professionals experienced in providing Assurance on complex accounting matters, transactional events, accounting operations improvements and regulatory and contractual compliance. Philip Barden Audit & Assurance Partner, Deloitte Global London, United Kingdom Philip Barden is a Partner in Deloitte’s UK IFRS Centre of Excellence and its National Accounting and Auditing group. He leads Deloitte’s Expert Advisory Panel on revenue recognition, reporting to the Global IFRS Leadership Team on revenue issues. During the development of the IASB’s revenue standard, he acted as Deloitte’s lead liaison with the IASB on that project, and he was a member of the joint IASB- FASB transition resource group on revenue recognition. He has more than 34 years of experience of advising clients on UK and international financial reporting issues. Since 2004, Phil has been a principal author of the Deloitte publications “GAAP” and “iGAAP”. He chairs the Financial Reporting Editorial Board of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), and is also a member of the ICAEW’s Financial Reporting Committee. Scott Whalan Financial Advisory Partner, Deloitte Middle East Dubai, United Arab Emirates Scott Whalan is a Partner in the Middle East Valuation & Modeling team. He has been with Deloitte for over 15 years, of which 10 of those have been spent in the Middle East. Prior to moving to the UAE, Scott worked in the Valuation team in Sydney. Scott has provided valuation advice in a variety of contexts including M&A, fairness opinions, family restructurings, disputes and regulatory compliance purposes. Additionally, Scott leads Deloitte Financial Advisory Middle East’s Family Office offering and is the author of the Middle East Family Office Report, and published numerous articles in Deloitte’s Point of View and Forbes, Middle East. Scott has Bachelor of Mathematics and Finance (Hons I) and is a CFA holder.
Didier Laduron Audit & Assurance Assistant Director, Deloitte Middle East Dubai, United Arab Emirates Didier Laduron has more than 14 years of professional experience in Western Europe and in the Middle East in advisory services across a spectrum of engagements, covering financial due diligence, financial business modelling, business plan review, valuation of businesses for buy-side and sell-side M&A mandates, valuation of intellectual property and other intangible assets for purchase price allocation and transfer pricing, impairment assessment, and assessment of damages for litigation support. Didier has been recently involved in valuation across sectors such as Aerospace, Defense, Logistics, Retail, Manufacturing, Construction, Real Estate, Facility Management, Private Equity, Hospitality, Education, Financial Services, F&B and ER&I. Didier holds a Master in Business Engineering from the SOLVAY Brussels School Economics & Management and is a Chartered Accountant from the Luxembourg Institute. Ranjith Chandran Audit & Assurance Partner, Deloitte Middle East Kuwait City, Kuwait Ranjith Chandran has over 20 years of experience in Audit & Assurance services and has an extensive knowledge of IFRS and its application across various industries, primarily financial services, telecommunications, energy and aviation sectors. Ranjith leads the Audit & Assurance Practice in Kuwait. Besides audit and assurance service, he has handled a number of business valuations & financial due diligence assignments. He has also led number of IFRS 9 and 16 implementation projects for banks and other clients in Kuwait. Ranjith is part of the Deloitte Middle East Accounting Technical Consultation team and has delivered several local and regional training courses on IFRS related topic.
Andreas Andreou Audit & Assurance Partner, Deloitte Cyprus Nicosia, Cyprus Andreas Andreou is an Audit & Assurance partner based in the Nicosia office and he leads the Assurance Business. Andreas is also the Insurance Industry Leader for Deloitte Cyprus. He joined Deloitte Cyprus in 1997 as an ACA trainee and he qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2000. He became Partner in January 2009. Andreas has served many large public and private companies in various areas of operation with specialization in the insurance and financial services industry. He participated also in various consulting projects relating to financial due diligence work. Andreas is also the National Professional Practice Director (NPPD) and member of the Audit Quality Board of Deloitte Middle East. He is also an IFRS Specialist and member of the DME IFRS Consultation Team, he is leading a number of large IFRS17 implementation projects and very often, he provides technical support and consultations on the application of the IFRSs. He also facilitates various technical seminars, both internally and externally. Andreas was a member of the ICPAC council for three years until June 2018, after having served for five years as the Vice-Chairman and member of the Accounting Standards Committee of ICPAC. He is also a member of the Technical Advisory Group that works closely with the Audit Regulator in Cyprus (the CyPAOB). Karim Nabulsi Audit & Assurance Partner, Deloitte Middle East Amman, Jordan Karim Nabulsi is the Office Managing Partner of Deloitte in Jordan. He is a BSc graduate with Honours in Economics and Accounting from Southampton University – UK, and a Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA) from England and Wales (ICAEW), with whom he qualified in 1994. He is also a Certified Jordanian Public Accountant (JCPA). Karim experience spans Audit & Assurance, Financial Advisory & Restructuring, Due Diligence, and some management consulting work. His clients have included premium banking and financial institutions, manufacturing, telecom, services, retail organizations, construction, in addition to a variety of privately held businesses and governmental institutions. Karim has served on several Deloitte committees, such as BOD Advisory Council, Partners Screening Committee, BOD Nomination Committee, Global Advisory Committee for DT Global, BOD member of DTME. He is also an active member of the Higher Committee for Regulating the Audit Profession in Jordan.
Craig Cosham Audit & Assurance Partner, Deloitte Middle East Dubai, United Arab Emirates Craig Cosham is a Banking Audit and Advisory partner with over 21 years of professional experience. Craig works with multinational financial services clients in both the Audit and Advisory space. Most significantly he served as Group audit partner for RBS and is currently leading the UK Firms efforts on UBS audit capture. Craig’s advisory skills center on prudential regulation and treasury as well as having considerable experience in equity capital markets. Peter Westaway Audit & Assurance Director, Deloitte Global London , United Kingdom Peter Westaway is a director in Deloitte UK's technical accounting team. He provides advice on a variety of accounting issues under IFRS and UK GAAP, specializing in lease accounting. He also leads various corporate reporting projects, including the survey of UK listed companies' annual reports and the accompanying benchmarking tools. Peter has extensive knowledge of technical accounting issues, is a member of Deloitte’s lease accounting Expert Advisory Panel and periodically attends Deloitte’s global IFRS leadership team conferences on behalf of the UK firm. He has also authored material in their technical guidance. Peter also has excellent communication skills and a practical ability to work towards solutions, given his audit background spanning multiple industries. Peter is a Chartered Accountant and a physics graduate of the University of Oxford.
Obada AlKowatly Audit & Assurance Partner, Deloitte Middle East Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates Obada AlKowatly is an Engagement Partner working with assurance services teams of the Abu Dhabi practice. He has dealt with audits of large Financial Services Industry (FSI) clients and listed companies, banks, real estate, sovereign wealth fund and investment management funds. Obada has completed a secondment in Deloitte’s London-based Global IFRS Offering Services Centre (GIOS), assisting in capital market offerings; focusing on (i) the application of SEC, PCAOB, AICPA and international standards, (ii) performing financial statement reviews under US GAAP, IFRS, UK GAAS and ISA and (iii) performing offering memorandums reviews. Obada has over 15 years of experience working with Deloitte’s Audit function since 2003, providing audit and accounting services to numerous companies focused primarily within various industries. Malcolm Coates Audit & Assurance Partner, Deloitte Middle East Dubai, United Arab Emirates Malcolm Coates has over 30 years of professional audit experience in public practice servicing many prestigious local and international clients in a wide variety of industries. These industries include financial services, manufacturing, hospitality and entertainment, construction and real estate. Prior to joining the Middle East firm in September 2016 Malcolm spent the previous 8 years working in the Deloitte Moscow office preforming audits of financial statements of both listed and non-listed entities prepared under IFRS and local Russian statutory accounting standards.
Irshad Jooma Audit & Assurance Director, Deloitte Middle East Dubai, United Arab Emirates Irshad Jooma is a Director in Deloitte’s Assurance Team specializing in financial instruments valuations, IFRS 9, and Treasury advisory services. Irshad has previously worked in both the Deloitte Sydney and Johannesburg Offices. In addition, he was the treasury technical advisor for the largest corporate treasury in South Africa. Irshad has experience in the areas of treasury operations, financial risk management, financial instruments and derivatives valuations, and is an IFRS specialist with regards to financial instruments. Ahmed Al Qassabi Audit & Assurance Managing Partner, Deloitte Middle East Muscat, Oman Ahmed Al Qassabi is the Managing Partner in the Deloitte Oman office. He is a Chartered Certified Accountant (FCCA) with over 18 years of experience in Audit and Advisory and has led various projects within this area. Anish Mehta Audit & Assurance Director, Deloitte Middle East Dubai, United Arab Emirates Anish Mehta is an Audit Director in the Dubai Office, has over 20 years of audit experience including 13 years in the Arabian Gulf. Anish has significant experience in auditing entities of SME’s and large business groups with diversified businesses and consolidation of their financial statements. His multidisciplinary industry experience covers several industries including hospitality, retailing, manufacturing & trading companies, healthcare, contracting and real estate.
