Relax, eat and visit the weekend markets at the convict-built harbour and sandstone Salamanca Place. Visit Hobart's oldest suburb of Battery Point. Hobart offers access to Richmond, Kettering, Bruny Island, Wineglass Bay and Tasmania's national parks Upon Arrival in Hoabert proceed to the AVIS counter located in the Arrivals Hall and collect your rental car and make your own way to your accommodation. On leaving the Airport follow the signs to Hobart. Take the exit onto Tasman Hwy/A3 heading to A3 Hobart for approximately 16 minutes (16km). Leave the A3 for your city centre accommodation. Highlights Salamanca Markets: The best location to shop in Hobart is at Salamanca Place, down near the waterfront. Beautiful old sandstone buildings have been converted to galleries, cafés and boutiques and the whole street comes to life on Saturdays (8.30am–3.00pm) with the outdoor Salamanca markets. Around 200 stalls sell exquisite Tasmanian-designed handmade goods and locally-grown fresh produce. Mount Wellington: A protected reserve, Wellington Park contains a vast array of wilderness right on Hobart's doorstep, with majestic Mount Wellington towering above the city. Just a short 20-minute drive away the reserve covers over 18,000 hectares of pristine wilderness. Lark Distillery: Situated on the Hobart waterfront, Lark Cellar Door and Whisky Bar offers the opportunity to taste Tasmania’s finest whisky and other distilled spirits in a warm and inviting atmosphere. The bar ranges over 150 premium malt whiskies. You can also choose from a selection of Tasmanian beer, wine and cider as well as great coffees and cheese platters.
Day 2 Hobart – Huon Valley approx. 132km Tasmania National Park Permit Please note: A valid park entry permit is required for entry to Tasmania's National Parks and you will need this while travelling through the National Parks. The money raised from park fees goes directly towards the upkeep of your parks and reserves. It is used to maintain and upgrade visitor facilities, walking tracks and information booths and provide a range of services. You can purchase this at the Information Centre in Hobart before you set off this morning. Purchase a Holiday Pass, which covers entry into all of Tasmania’s national parks for up to 8 weeks, and also provides free use of the Cradle Mt shuttle bus. The cost is AUD 60.00 for one vehicle (up to 8 people). Option 1: via Woodbridge and Cygnet to Geeveston This scenic option takes you along the Eastern coastline of the peninsula with views towards Bruny Island. From Hobart follow A6 (Huon Highway) South towards Huon Valley. At the Kingston roundabout, continue straight onto ‘Southern Outlet’ and then B68/Channel Highway around the edge of the peninsula. You drive through Cygnet and reach where you turn left onto Huon Hwy/A6 and follow the signs to Geeveston. Option 2: to Geeveston direct From Hobart follow A6 (Huon Highway) South towards Huon Valley and all the way to Geeveston. On the way you will pass Willy Smith Apple Shed. In Geeveston turn off onto C632/C321 (Arve Rd) to Tahune Airwalk. After the walk, take the same route back to Geeveston and your accommodation. Highlights Willy Smith Apple Shed: In 1888, Willie Smith planted the first apple tree in their orchard located in the Huon Valley, Tasmania. Four generations later, they still pick from this orchard – with a few more trees added to it, of course! The orchard went Organic in 1997, thanks to the innovation of current orchardist, Andrew Smith. The cidery is located at the orchard, meaning the fruit travels the smallest distance possible from tree to bottle. It’s a full circle process which all occurs in one place, right on the farm! Geeveston: Surrounded by rolling hills and the nearby mountains of the Hartz Mountains National Park, Geeveston has a range of shops, eateries and local attractions and a main street full of hand-carved timber sculptures of famous locals. Call in to the Geeveston Forest and Heritage Centre for an indepth look at the history of the area and the background to the logging and management of the southern forests.

General Admission Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary are leaders in the rehabilitation and release of injured and orphaned Tasmanian native wildlife. Your entry fees directly fund the running of the Sanctuary, as well as the operation of all conservation programs, and include a free bag of kangaroo food, and access to the daily tours. The roos roam free within the Sanctuary and are always keen for a good scratch on the chest and gentle hand feeding. Mt Field National Park Mt Field National Park is one of Tasmania's most loved national parks. The park has a wide variety of scenic features and wildlife and offers a great range of facilities for day visitors. Few other parks can match the diversity in vegetation, ranging from tall swamp gum forests and massive tree ferns at the base of the mountain, through rainforest to alpine vegetation at the higher elevations.
Russell Falls is the star attraction and even featured on Australia's first stamp. It's a short, wheelchair accessible journey from the visitor centre, through enormous fern forests and some of the world's tallest trees. There's even more to be discovered in Tasmania's most diverse national park, including Lady Barron Falls, Horseshoe Falls and many more on the way to the summit of Mount Field itself. Encounter some of the park's unique alpine species on the Pandani Grove walk around Lake Dobson, and if you're lucky you'll spot a platypus. Lady Barron Falls Walk – Grade 2 (allow 2 hours – 6km circuit) Shorter walk options possible in particular to Russell Falls. Starting directly behind the Mount Field National Park office, the trail first leads to Russell Falls. This first section is easy going, following a well maintained wheelchair access track next to a lovely creek flowing off the waterfall. The falls themselves, a postcard example of Tasmania’s beautiful wilderness are stunning. From here you can make your way up a steep, but short, climb to Horseshoe Falls, another breath- taking waterfall. Crossing the bridge just before the falls, continue through the upper section of the rainforest for another 1.5km before coming to the Tall Trees walk, an easy 1km circuit within the Lady Barron circuit. Huge swamp gums are found here, the tallest flowering plant on the planet. Walking on, cross Lake Dobson Road and continue back into the forest. The trail undulates, coming in and out of the shadows of the towering trees. 1km in from the road, you will come to Lady Barron Falls, a split level falls offering some more secluded viewing to that of Russell Falls. The trail then heads back towards the main carpark with one steep staircase to be climbed midway. Your surroundings throughout the walk is enchanting, with multiple waterfalls to take in, beautiful mossy rainforest and some of the tallest trees in the world on offer. Park Info: The park has two visitor sections. The first, near the park entrance, includes picnic facilities and the famous Russell Falls. Stunning walks through enormous fern forests and some of the tallest trees in the world are available in this area. The second visitor section is centred at Lake Dobson and includes the long day walks and skiing areas. The Lake Dobson carpark is up a further 16km of winding gravel road. Due to snow conditions, vehicles using this road may require chains; at times the road may be closed.
