Le : Susan Losche, Terri Hoover and Michelle Bodem opened up GAK Kloset for 2021, selling vintage German giŌs to guests of Maitag Weekend. Center: the new GAK “Schwenker” grilling Chef Nikki’s outstanding Schwenkbraten over hardwood. Right: The Liederkranz Brass Band entertained guests with their excellent performance of tradiƟonal German music. The GAK opened up the biergarten for 2021 with our 4th annual Maitag Weekend. Friday night featured MashCra Braumeis- ter Andrew Castner’s ceremonial tapping of the Maibock to kick off the weekend. We fired up the Schwenker grill for the first me and were serenaded to German favorites expertly played by the Liederkranz Brass Band. The evening culminated with Marie Lawlor of die Fledermäuschen Tanzgruppe and the Irvington Black Hat Society leading a cas ng away of winter spirits, making way for warm summer spirits with the “Hexentanz” (witches dance) for Walpurgisnacht. On Saturday, we raised the Maibaum for the 4th year—this year’s baum featured the German Cultural Socie es of Indianapolis as we generate greater collabora on in our cultural outreach in the city, con nuing our efforts to build our culture and have a great me doing it.
