4 CUMBRIA Dear Garden Visitor, CUMBRIA – where Wordsworth ‘wandered lonely as a cloud’ before finding his ‘host of golden daffodils’. CUMBRIA – part of which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2017. CUMBRIA – offering mountains, fells, lakes, tarns, waterfalls – a rugged coastline softened by estuaries and rolling open country spaces through which rivers, streams and becks wander and hurry on their way to the sea. Amongst all of this natural beauty are our gardens, offering havens of tranquillity, panoramic views of distant lakes and mountains - family gardens flourishing alongside stately homes set in their vast estates. CUMBRIA – a county of contrasts in scale and interest, where a visit to some of our gardens will offer colour, relaxation, evidence of love and care and perhaps an idea or two to take back home. Perhaps even a plant or two to create a corner of Cumbria in your own patch. Happy garden visiting!
