Cumberland County Technical Education Center Spring 2021-22| A Publication of CCTEC THE VISION CTE Victorious in Annual Basketball Tournament March 4, 2022 | Ariana Beckford On March 4, 2022, CCTEC hosted the most highly anticipated basketball game between the CTE teachers and the academic teachers. The game ending in a 35-25 CTE victory. The members of the CTE team were Mr. Ziller, Mr. Roch, Mr. Hendricks, Mr. Beck, law enforcement teacher Mr. Caregnato, Mr. Neder, Mrs. Kessler, Mr. Lawless, and Mr. Ward. The members of the academic team were the following: Mrs. Smick, Mr. Caregnato, Mr. Massaro, Mr. O’Neil, Mr. Suppi, Mr. Briggs, Mr. Biaselli, and Mr. Patel. In an interview, Mrs. Smick of the academic team answered several questions about her team, the CTE team, and her motivations. Both teams have prepared for the game by competing against each other every Thursday. When asked what her team’s biggest struggle in preparing for the game was, “Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to get together all at the same time.” She joined the academic team because she didn’t have the opportunity to join the team the last time there was an academic versus CTE basketball game. According to Mrs. Smick, her team’s biggest strength was youth, and the CTE’s biggest strength was experience. Mr. Beck of the CTE team also answered several questions about his team. “Making sure that the members had the chemistry needed to play during the game and getting used to playing with each other,” according to Mr. Beck, this was the greatest challenge his team faced in preparing for the game. He stated that his team’s biggest strength was size, as many members of his team have the height that give them an advantage. The team’s biggest weakness was having some teammates who were no longer available for the game due to health issues. Mr. Beck was extremely confident in his team’s ability to win from the very beginning, and this confidence wasn’t without merit, as his team played their way to victory. Regardless of which team you may have been rooting for, it can’t be denied that the CTE vs. Academic basketball game has allowed teachers, students, and parents to enjoy the friendly competition.

Automotive Technology won both the upperclassmen competitions and the underclassmen competitions. This massive win might have been surprising to many, but students in the program express how their teacher, Mr. Scaruzzi, motivated them before the contest.
