CTE Victorious in Annual Basketball Tournament
                                           March 4, 2022 | Ariana Beckford
On March 4, 2022, CCTEC hosted the most highly anticipated basketball game between the
CTE teachers and the academic teachers. The game ending in a 35-25 CTE victory. The
members of the CTE team were Mr. Ziller, Mr. Roch, Mr. Hendricks, Mr. Beck, law
enforcement teacher Mr. Caregnato, Mr. Neder, Mrs. Kessler, Mr. Lawless, and Mr. Ward. The
members of the academic team were the following: Mrs. Smick, Mr. Caregnato, Mr. Massaro,
Mr. O’Neil, Mr. Suppi, Mr. Briggs, Mr. Biaselli, and Mr. Patel.
In an interview, Mrs. Smick of the academic team answered several questions about her team,
the CTE team, and her motivations. Both teams have prepared for the game by competing
against each other every Thursday. When asked what her team’s biggest struggle in preparing
for the game was, “Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to get together all at the same time.”
She joined the academic team because she didn’t have the opportunity to join the team the last
time there was an academic versus CTE basketball game.

According to Mrs. Smick, her team’s biggest strength was youth, and the CTE’s biggest strength
was experience. Mr. Beck of the CTE team also answered several questions about his team.
“Making sure that the members had the chemistry needed to play during the game and getting used
to playing with each other,” according to Mr. Beck, this was the greatest challenge his team faced in
preparing for the game. He stated that his team’s biggest strength was size, as many members of his
team have the height that give them an advantage. The team’s biggest weakness was having some
teammates who were no longer available for the game due to health issues. Mr. Beck was extremely
confident in his team’s ability to win from the very beginning, and this confidence wasn’t without
merit, as his team played their way to victory. Regardless of which team you may have been rooting
for, it can’t be denied that the CTE vs. Academic basketball game has allowed teachers, students,
and parents to enjoy the friendly competition.

                              Highlights From the Volleyball Tournament
                                 February 25, 2022 | Mikeldi Santos

The CCTEC volleyball tournament took place on February 25th, 2022. There were many
teams competing to become the overall champion. Many teams tried their best to get to the top
two, but the only teams that made it were Ms. Moratelli's and Mr. Patel’s teams.
Both teams had a very intense start, with each team trying to get a break in the score. Both
teams had incredible spikes and receives at the 2:30 mark. Mr. Patel's team got a break in the
score and took the lead with three points, putting extreme pressure on Ms. Moratelli's team to
try to catch up at the one-minute mark. Ms. Moratelli’s team desperately tried to match the
score, but the clock was against them, with only a couple of seconds remaining.
Moratelli and her team tried their hardest to catch up but unfortunately, they fell short of
victory by only seven points. After the game, Mr. Patel had some kind words for his team, "I
want to toss it out to the juniors, I couldn’t do it without their teamwork. We have been
waiting a couple of years for this, and their effort got us through this." He also wanted to say
some encouraging words to Ms. Moratelli's team, “I want to shout out Ms. Moratelli's
freshmen, I'm very proud of them and they crushed it.” After talking to Ms. Moratelli she
commented, “I feel great, I feel energized, the freshmen killed it so Mr. Patel better watch out
because next year we are taking the crown."

February 04, 2022 | Michael Deem Jr.

CCTEC’s first annual CCTEC All-Stars event was held on February 4th, succeeding the
original event, Mr. CCTEC by creating an all inclusive event to showcase everyone’s talents.
The event was organized by the Class of 2022 executive committee, along with the senior class
advisor, Mr. Shawn Riggins. This was the first Class of 2022 event after a two year hiatus
because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Both the executive committee members and the
contestants were very happy they could participate as restrictions were lightened up.

The event was hosted by CCTEC seniors Hannah Tamagni and Emily Muniz, along with a
special guest, Mr. Greg McGraw who delivered some jokes. There were also some features of
CCTEC extracurricular activities and a thank you to the judges.

Each of the twelve contestants were assigned a different month to represent.

CCTEC Prepares for Life After High School
College Day took place at CCTEC to help inform students about potential college options.
                               March 23, 2022 | Jessica Lee

On March 23rd, CCTEC hosted a College Fair
for its freshmen, sophomore, and junior classes.
During this event, representatives from various
colleges and universities, such as the University
of Delaware and Montclair State University,
came to give information to students. There
were also representatives from various military
and trade programs. Students were very excited
to find out more about where they may go after
high school. One CCTEC student said “It was
nice to see options of future career paths
without having to travel far.” This refers to how
there were colleges whose locations varied
from Arizona to New Jersey, which meant that
there were options for everyone. Most students
found many potential options with another
student mentioning how “I’m interested in
attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical
University.” Overall, College Day could
definitely be considered a success.

CTE Week Wraps Up With a Legendary Pep Rally
Automotive put their pep in your "CTE-P"
April 25, 2022 | Lesly Hernandez, Sienna Nash

A battle broke out among students during CTE week. The week started off with Fiesta vs. Siesta, where students
either dressed to impress or wore their favorite pajamas. Country vs. country club gave students the opportunity to wear
their best western fit, or they could opt to wear their preppiest outfit. The week continued with military camo gear vs
peaceful tie-dye. Finally, it ended with the pep rally. This required students in different programs to dress in their
designated program color and get hyped for the pep rally.
During the pep rally, students in each program were set to compete in challenging games. The games included
blindfold bowling, hungry hungry hippos, software breach, and cup construction, just to name a few. Miss Pitman, head
coordinator of the games, mentions how difficult it was to create new games, with new concepts. According to student
council president Jorge Rodriguez and vice president Sophia Adams, the games were a recycled version of their past
counterparts.
Automotive Technology won both the upperclassmen competitions and the underclassmen competitions. This
massive win might have been surprising to many, but students in the program express how their teacher, Mr. Scaruzzi,
motivated them before the contest. Jesse Jimenez, an automotive student said, "We can do this... win three, and we got
it in the bag." Now that this year's winners have been found, who will take the principals cup next year? We will just
have to wait and find out!
