C R O W 'S N E S T SOUTHBAY YACHT & RACQUET CLUB JANUARY 2021 WWW.SOUTHBAYCOMMUNITY.COM LINDA BAGLIO - CCI CLUBHOUSE • As of early December, the interior ceramic tile installation is 85% complete. The social area is RENOVATION completely tiled. The tile work yet to be completed is the foyer and stairway. We just picked up our front foyer floor medallion from Design Works. It will be installed with the tile in the foyer at the same time. • All but 2 exterior doors are installed. All interior doors and trim have been installed, and jamb extensions are roughly 80% complete. We are waiting for stair treads. The lift doors are installed and ready for staining. • The first coat of interior paint is 95% complete. • Corridor barrel ceiling material has been delivered to Howell’s shop for staining. The flooring in the library/multi-function room right off our new cardroom. It still needs cleaning but looks beautiful already! • Mechanical and electrical trim work and installation of plumbing fixtures has begun. • In the upstairs area, the vinyl plank flooring is installed in the card room and in the library/multi-purpose room. It really looks beautiful. New card room chairs are being purchased by the House Committee. • I would like to thank Howie Altman, John Zablackas and Duff Smiley for volunteering their time to set up our kitchen cabinets. They helped remove all the doors and drawers for the cabinet painter and then installed the cabinets downstairs on December 5th, John Zablackas and Howie Altman assemble the cabinets in the saving Southbay a lot of money. We appreciate their new first floor kitchen area. time and effort. • I’m sure many of you noticed the exterior railings being installed on the outside of the clubhouse. I received many panicked phone calls about the color! They were just being dry fitted before they were sent out to be powder coated in black. • Right now Howell is looking at the end of January as a completion date. Look on our website for the most recent photos of our renovation work. • It is important that no one enters the clubhouse without an escort at this point. So much is in the drying stage that touching or walking on something could cost us money to have to redo an area. Thank you.
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE MIKE ALEXANDER, BOD PRESIDENT 2020 was unlike any other with COVID disrupting usual Member, Committee, and Board routines. Actions taken due to the pandemic clearly made us all focus harder with much uncertainty and changes from our federal, state, and local government and health leaders. On top of that, the Clubhouse Renovation provided challenges with an office relocation into a modified garage to save money. Further, Toni had to adjust to working with a new treasurer, vice-president, and president all in the same year and doing so remotely from time to time. We went from testing video meetings to allow more access to our meetings to making it the only way to govern during the pandemic. Yet, our Members, our Volunteers, Committees, and the Board showed resilience to hunker down and get the work of Southbay done. You have heard me mention scores of people who have made a difference this year, pronounce awards to many and support select socially distanced community activities. You have heard me repeatedly harp about improving safety and support actions to do so. We have shouldered up together as a community to endure and advance. Becoming a golf cart approved community, new multi-way stop signs, needed irrigation improvements, substantial improvements to our grounds, a record number of ARC approvals and a renovated clubhouse which will be complete soon, and a whole lot more were hallmarks of 2020. Bravo team Southbay! With 2020 in our hindsight, I look forward to 2021 and to welcoming Brian Barrett and Charles Hines to our Board, along with returning veterans Linda Baglio and Duffy Smiley. We will solidify our community leadership at our January 5th board meeting. A first order of business in 2021 will be to advance our adopted Strategy and I urge you to review your copy. If you need another, you can find one at the bottom of the “Documents” tab in the “My Resident Area” of our website. We will focus on a) Improving our Entrances and Greenbelts, b) Maintaining and Improving the Marina, c) Enhancing our Social Environment, and d) the Safety and Security of Southbay. All with a focus on improving service level to all Members of our community while we seek post-pandemic operating protocols. Until then, please follow all local and state governing directives and CDC Guidelines. Distance yourself from others. Be cautious. Wear a face covering. You have heard me often say that Southbay Yacht and Racquet Club will be recognized as Southwest Florida’s best marina neighborhood and a most desirable place to live so residents can enjoy the benefits of family, friends, and community. And…We do this by working together to improve and preserve our natural beauty and tangible assets to achieve a higher quality of life and wellbeing, enabling future generations the enjoyment of our slice of paradise. This is who we are. We are Southbay, Mike Alexander

ABBY CRABILL Making new traditions, Janice Sowder of the Southbay Social Committee organized an afternoon of holiday crafts and caroling. At the park, we did crafts such as painting pinecones, decorating Christmas signs and making ornaments. There was a hot chocolate booth, pizza, and Christmas tree cakes for all the kids and those young at heart. We cruised around the neighborhood on golfcarts decorated for Christmas. The houses that had signed up for the carolers to stop by were eager to come hear the children sing and dance, many joined in the cheerful song. Henslee would give each of the Southbay residents one of the homemade ornaments. Jingle bells and sound of holiday cheer filled the neighborhood. The kids had a blast spreading the joy of Christmas to those who might not be able to visit family this year. As the golf carts arrived at the last house to carol the family had a special surprise for the kids, Santa Claus came and gave all the kids presents. This was a fun new tradition that all the Southbay families would like to continue! Thanks to everyone who made it such a fun afternoon! “The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear” -Buddy the Elf. !!!!! If any of the kids in Southbay have anything special going on or want to be interviewed, please call or send a message to (260) 341-7545. SANTA'S RUN
