More information available at this link Long Beach Using 'My Turn' For Vaccination Appointments The City of Long Beach has transitioned to My Turn, the State's COVID-19 vaccine notification and appointment system. My Turn is now required by the State and is intended to help manage vaccine distribution. While walk-up appointments are available at the Convention Center, all residents age 12 and over can make appointments on My Turn at this link: https://myturn.ca.gov/ Past and Ongoing Events Rental Assistance Program Extended New application deadline: June 11, 2021 The City is extending the deadline for residential landlords and tenants to submit applications for the Long Beach Emergency Rental Assistance Program (LB-ERAP) by 30 days. All LB- ERAP applications can be submitted via an online information and service portal at longbeach.gov/erap. The program provides rental assistance to residential landlords and income-eligible tenants in Long Beach
who have experienced financial loss or economic hardship due to COVID-19. You can read the entire press release at this link. Homeless Services Division Transition On May 21st, City Manager, Tom Modica, informed us that beginning June 15th, the Homeless Services Division will transition to its own bureau. The Homeless Services Bureau will consist of two divisions: the Homeless Operations Division (responsible for administration) and the Homeless Programs Division (responsible for direct services). Each division will have an officer, overseen by the Homeless Services Bureau Manager, improving managerial capacity to support the growing number of staff. This expansion reflects the City's high priority for reducing homelessness and increasing affordable housing. You can learn more about the transition at this link. Press Telegram coverage is at this link. Long Beach Celebrates Pride Month Tuesday, June 1st, marked the beginning of Pride Month. The commemoration serves to recognize the contributions and impacts made by LGBTQ individuals. City departments are recognizing Pride Month in a variety of ways. The logo at right is from the Long Beach Public Library. Events will be highlighted in our newsletter throughout the month. These will include the release of the LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce directory and the Census Bureau Data for the LGBTQ Community FREE Webinar. Krispy Kreme Celebrates National Doughnut Day! 4760 E. Upcoming Events F/A-18 Operations at LGB This Weekend Fri - Sat | June 4th - 5th | Long Beach Airport The U.S. Navy has informed LGB that one (1) F/A-18 aircraft will be conducting training operations at Long Beach Airport on Friday, June 4 and Saturday, June 5. It is anticipated the aircraft will arrive late in the evening on Friday and depart in the morning on Saturday, but all times are tentative and subject to change. LGB will be informing the community via WebTrak, social media and LGB's website. The aircraft will use noise abatement procedures when operating near Long Beach. These procedures include modified arrival and departure flight profiles and minimum use of afterburners.
LB Playhouse Features FREE Online Readings This Weekend Friday, June 4 and Saturday, June 5 | 7:00 pm |Online Tonight, June 4th, and tomorrow night, June 5th, the Long Beach Playhouse will present play readings of the Winners of the 2021 New Works Festival! The Long Beach Playhouse's New Works Festival is an annual event that nurtures emerging and established playwrights to develop new scripts. Reading 100+ scripts a year, the New Works Literary Committee chooses two top plays to receive a stage reading with critical feedback from professional theatre critics and an audience talkback. Due to the pandemic, the event is online and readings are prerecorded videos filmed in the Studio Theater with a live online talkback after the showings. Tickets to these showings are FREE due to the generous support of the Port of Long Beach. Register for your free tickets at the website event.
Tichenor Clinic Superheroes Drive-Thru Carnival! June 5th | 11 am - 3 pm | 1660 Termino Ave. Our council office is proud to help sponsor the 6th Annual Tichenor Clinic Superheroes event. Join us on Saturday, June 5, 2021 outside Tichenor Clinic for the Superheroes Carnival & Resource Fair for families. Come dressed up to join a Superhero car parade through the lot. Drive through and the Superhero staff will be masked and ready to safely provide every family with take-home games & activities, community resources and food. For more info, call (562) 597-3696. Summer Adaptive Youth & Adult Rec Programs M-F | June 21 - Aug. 27 | 4520 E. 23rd St. Stearns Park will be the site of in person adaptive recreation programs for middle and high school youth and adults. Programs will provide fun and enriching experiences such as art, games and fitness activities designed for people with special needs. Registration begins June 7th, 2:30 p.m. in-person at Stearns Champions Park by appointment only. To make an appointment or for more information, please call 562.440.2867. Below are items that appear on Tuesday's agenda: Recommendation to declare ordinance adding Long Beach Municipal Code Chapter 8.81 relating to fireworks and by repealing Chapter 16.08.600, and declaring the urgency thereof, read the first time and laid over to the next regular meeting of the City Council for final reading. (Citywide) Recommendation to declare ordinance amending the Long Beach Municipal Code by adding Chapter 18.78 relating to construction in the vicinity of abandoned oil wells, read and adopt as read. (Citywide) Recommendation to declare ordinance amending the Long Beach Municipal Code by adding Chapter 18.79 relating to methane gas mitigation, read and adopt as read. Filming in the Fourth June 9 & 10 | 6 am - 2 am | 1720 Termino Ave. Filming will take place at 1720 Termino Ave, Long Beach Community Hospital (OPEN TO PUBLIC), 5th Floor (closed floor), 1st Floor auditorium and conference/meeting room. Filming will consist of interior dialogue with talent giving birth and interior dialogue with a "new mom's women group" meeting. Production shall NOT interfere with emergency room access at any time, no exception. Cambodia Town Inc. Scholarship Program Deadline: June 30th | Apply Online The objective of Cambodia Town Inc.'s Scholarship Program, now named the Rosana Chanou Memorial Scholarship, is to provide Cambodian American high school graduates from the Long Beach Unified School District with a scholarship to achieve higher levels of education. The program supports students who have shown an interest in the history of Cambodians in Long Beach and through volunteer activities improved conditions in Cambodia Town. Please visit their website for more information. And Finally It's Official... 'The Habit' is Coming to CD4! On Wednesday, Regency Centers announced that The Habit Burger Grill and restaurant concept will be opening at the Circle Marina Shopping Center on PCH at Ximeno. You can read the press release here. Replacing the former Burger King site, "The Habit" will provide a new, fast-casual concept to this iconic location where the burger restaurant, Beany's #2, opened 70 years ago. The Habit Burger Grill offers quality and variety in their menu that you can check out at this link. A grand opening date has not yet been announced, but we'll certainly let you know in a future newsletter. We're hoping they might consider October 25, 2021. That's the 70th anniversary of the grand opening of Beany's #2. If not, we'll still take advantage of this opportunity to repeat the video of Beany's opening in 1951.
