Attendee Registration § Attendance is trending higher at this time as compared to the last time Coverings was in Orlando (2019). Distributors 17% A+D 21% Retailers 46% Contractors/installers 4% § National Wood Flooring Association will be co-locating with Coverings. Attendees will be able to visit both show floors at no cost. § Expected attendance is difficult to forecast at this time. We are receiving positive feedback from past attendees and based on the current registrations, we are optimistic regarding attendance.
Coverings Hotel Update § Hotel reservation links are open at Coverings.com/hotels. § The current hotel block sales are in line with the same time in the show cycle for prior Orlando shows. § We encourage exhibitors to book our block as there are NO DEPOSITS required until mid-June and any deposits made at that time are still refundable up to 72 hours before arrival. The Coverings block will provide the most flexibility.
Exhibit Update § For Coverings 2021, 100,400 net square feet has been assigned to 163 companies. § Tim Fearney is the main point of contact for exhibit and sponsorship sales. Coverings Show Updates § Show dates are July 7-9, 2021; 3-day show § OCCC exhibit hall: North A&B § Exhibitor Service Manual is available on the Coverings website § Access to exhibit hall for stand building begins Friday, July 2 at 8:00 a.m. § Exhibitor materials must be removed by Sunday, July 11 at 11:00 a.m. All carriers should be checked-in by Sunday, July 11 at 9:00 a.m.
COVID, Vaccinations, and Events
Safety Measures § The convention center in Orlando has obtained the GBAC Star Accreditation by establishing a cleaning, disinfection and infection disease program. § More than 50 events have taken place at the OCCC since July 2020. § There will be first aid stations onsite at the OCCC. § Hand sanitizer dispensers will be placed throughout the OCCC. § Social distancing will be encouraged through signage and floor decals. § We are having continued discussions with exhibitors, attendees, as well as reviewing recommendations from the CDC, state and local officials to determine the best recommendations for social distancing and masks during Coverings. We will communicate our specific policy closer to the show.
Booth Design Suggestions § Traffic flow. Establish clear points of entry and exit to your display. Consider using floor graphics or street signs in your booth to direct traffic flow. § Social distancing. Keep areas open when possible, to accommodate social distancing in your booth space. § Keep it clean. When exhibiting, regularly disinfect frequently-touched surfaces in your booth. Have hand sanitizer readily available.

Imports from Spain (in sq. ft.) § For the first time on record, Spain was the largest exporter of ceramic tile to the U.S. by volume, replacing China, which had held the top position since 2015. § Total Spanish imports were 407.2 million sq. ft. in 2020, a 16.1% increase from the previous year. § Spanish imports claimed a 20.7% share of total U.S. imports by volume last year, up considerably from 16.9% in 2019. Key Economic Indicators: New Home Starts § In spite of the pandemic, the U.S. housing market performed very well last year. § Total new home starts continued their upward trajectory, reaching their highest annual level since 2006. Source: U.S. Census Bureau
Key Economic Indicators: New Home Sales § Another encouraging sign for the residential market was the continued rise of new single-family home sales, which were up for the ninth straight year and reached their highest level since 2006. § The 811,000 units sold in 2020 represented a strong 18.8% increase from the previous year. Key Economic Indicators: U.S. Construction Spending § Bolstered by the strong housing market, U.S. construction spending (includes both private and public residential and non-residential construction) increased for the ninth consecutive year to its highest level on record. § The $1.43 trillion total in 2020 represented a 4.7% increase from the previous year. COVID-19’s Impact § For several weeks during the spring, tile plants in the three countries exporting the most tile to the U.S. (i.e., Spain, Mexico, and Italy) were shut down due to COVID-19. § Comparing the second half of 2020 to the same timeframe the previous year, U.S. consumption was up a robust 10.7%.
