There were no shocks as such in the opening round, although notable results included wins for the new look Marple & Compstall side, and the equally new Trafford Metrovicks. Hyde’s 132 run demolition of Stockport Trinity featured an astonishing innings of 97 off just 32 balls by Hridoy Nath, who hit 13 sixes! After Sunday’s matches the equations in all of the groups are fairly clear. Holders Didsbury will face off with their Premier League counterparts Stockport Georgians to determine who progresses from 8, both sides having two wins. Runners- up in 2019, and with a NRR of 4.25 (!) only a highly unlikely hideous loss to Heaton Mersey can prevent Hyde qualifying from 7. In 6, one of three sides could qualify but Bramhall are in pole position, while Grappenhall have won two from two in 3 and will progress if they beat Bowdon, who can’t qualify - but Hale Barns could also get through with the right set of results. Toft’s Phil Raikes hit 122 off 69 on debut as they walloped OP by 117 runs on Sunday, but Elworth top this group and play OP next. In 4, Timperley racked up 214-0 (Shahnawaz Khan130 off 58, Zain Bhatti 66 off 62) in beating Ashley, setting up a decider with Sale (who have a better NRR). Macclesfield are all set to win 1 with a healthy NRR and winless Langley facing them on Sun. A confusing and inadequate posting of results in 5 means the situation there is unclear, but Alderley Edge have two wins thus far. TOP T WEETS Upton’s response to their bad day at Hale Barns on Saturday!
